Accurate 22 Rifle

Browning 52 sporter surprised me today. Norma TAC-22, out of a clean barrel. It's a little under scoped, 3-12x. Might tighten up with better glass.

I have Anschutz MS64 & an Early Super Match. Like all 22's best accuracy is with quality (expensive) ammo
like Lapua, Eley, and RWS. A Kimber 82G with an XTSP trigger. A BSA Martini with peep sights. (2) Rem 40X's
one is a government rifle and the other is in a custom wood stock for position shooting and has a PQP
trigger set at 8 ounces. After trying to find the perfect load I've given up and buy mostly Eley Black Box at various speeds as RWS and Lapua are just not available lately. At 82 years of age I just enjoy going to the
range and shooting from 50yds out to 200yds. I have owned a SUHL and Walther and they were very
accurate. Go out and enjoy shooting your rifles. HAVE FUN

I'm partial to all kinds of 22lr. Shot them since my parents would turn me loose with a piece of crap single shot bolt gun on sparrows. Mom bought Federal 711B by the brick as needed. Next was a Model 60 Glenfield was the piece of crap scope. Shot a mountain of sparrows and starlings. We had outdoor livestock so lots of targets.

Upgraded to a 10/22 Ruger and better scope. The birds were in big trouble due to the scope, not the gun. The Model 60 is still an awesome gun. Since then, been through a Norinco (great gun), Ruger 77/22, CZ 452, CZ 453, Winchester 52B sporter (later model), Remington 40x and probably a few others. Settled on an Anschutz 1513. I will eventually break down and get a 541S or T at some point.

Got a Savage with a threaded barrel and pretty much permanently attached a silencer to shoot racoons and other varmints. That one is fun and probably has gotten the most usage recently because it is quieter. If you have access to silencers, I would highly suggest getting something with a threaded barrel.

Ammo is probably going to be the key to accuracy. Some guns are going to shoot everything well and others are much more picky. Buy a couple, three or four and have fun. Preaching to the choir but parallax is an issue with 22's due to shooter distance. Leupold EFR scopes are going to be something to consider.

If you can find one CZ 453 set trigger...........
2nd CZ 452
3rd CZ 457 24" Barrel.

My 1957 52C is the all out Champ.
My CZ 457 Lilja 24" Barrel and Chassis and more is Great, but only loves High End Ammo

In 95% of the time the right Ammo for the Rifle is the Key.

I just got my Bergara BMR Steel. Sighted in rifle with a Burris Fullfield scope at 30 yards. 1, 2, and 3 shots to adjust scope, 4, 5, and 6 shots grouped 3/8" dead center. Need to tighten that up! LOL

My Ruger 77/22 shoots way better than with several brands of reasonably priced ammo. Best so far is .311" with Tac-22, Federal Target, Blazer, CCI Standard, and one or two others. Rifle is bone stock with an inexpensive Tasco World Class 6-24 scope. Trigger could probably use a bit of work because at 3-1/2 pounds it's a bit heavy for any serious work.
I took 28 small plastic containers and put 10 rounds of each brand in its own container, and on a nice calm day shot them at the county range. Each container was numbered and each target had a corresponding number so I could later identify which target was shot with which brand. The rifle is not cheap nor is the scope, but neither is not priced in the stratosphere.

I have a H&R M12 on the way from Cali (hope it gets here alright). Will be used for 100 yd scoped and open sights bench(score), 2 piece rest required.

At this weeks Benchrest Silhouette Match. Sight in shots. Aim point was single bullet hole with no hold off for wind. 50 yr old Anschutz 1808. Edit to add.. 100meters

Tim I am not sure. It's what you refer to as a "bits" rifle I think. :) I shoot it in this configuration.

That's a bitsa all right. The action is a 1960s 54, maybe '65-'66 going by the s/n, (with an updated trigger, likely a 5071). Since this is contemporary to the stock, calling it a 1411 is reasonable.

I did wonder if the barrel was the original that had been turned down, but now I see it's a replacement. I'd hazard a guess it's a take-off, as finding an 1808 that was removed seems more likely than a new 1808 barrel ordered from the factory.

The serial number on the Anschutz above indicates a date of 1965 or 1966. The barrel stamped 1808 EDS is not original to the receiver and is probably from the first half of the 1980s. As Tim Slater notes the trigger is not original to the receiver and is likely a 5071 or 5075. The 1411 stock with checkering on the pistol grip makes it pre-1970, but perhaps not by much.

Love of accurate rifles is not as transient and trendy and as many flashes and fads of shooting sports.

Pretty nice little group. I too like TAC-22. I prefer the black-box. I discovered it quite by accident when I took out my newly acquired 1885 Winchester by Miroku topped with a low end Leupold 2-7and shot a final group that just blew me away~!!!
