Accuracy with suppressor

Have any of you experienced a rifle that just won’t shoot with a muffler?
I finished up my 6.5x47 the other week and it shoots great without it. Put it on and you would think the bullets were hitting baffles but they are not. Put it on and it is hideous. Never seen anything quite like it.

Have you used this can on other rifle where the accuracy was good ?

I would suspect the can not being of high quality or is not concentric with dead even/centered buffles, and is disturbing the transitional ballistics of the bullet ?
Just a guess.

Direct thread or QD? If the rifle shoots without it, it Is out of tune or not concentric like the others noted. Just like a tuner the mass of the suppressor need to move with a few shims if possible. Qd torque is an important factor.

Is it clean?

Are the threads straight?

I just had a gun that would shoot amazing without the can and wouldn’t hit paper with it.

Very slight baffle strikes caused by ever so not straight shoulder and a really dirty can were the culprits.

I generally shoot all of my rifles better with a can screwed on the end and for some reason my rimfire rifles always shoot better with a can on them than they do without.

Threads are concentric to the bore. I checked with range rod and indicator rod. I dialed it it with range rod, then cut threads. I may play with loads more. I’ve just never had anything group that terrible from adding one. It is direct thread and it’s an innovative arms LDSP. They don’t make that model anymore either. It’s also a generous .30 cal can on a 6.5 rifle.

What’s the gun and load? Maybe there’s some
Info there that might help us, help you

It’s a Stiller Tac 30 with a jewell trigger. Krieger HV barrel 1/8. Its long too, probably 29”. Lapua brass, 123gr Lapua bullets sitting on top of 39grs of H4350. Cci sr primers.Bullets are .010 off the lands.

I don’t own a can so this is just a thought but after shooting a lot of rounds I noticed carbon buildup in my muzzle break encroaching on the bore could this possibly happen inside the suppressor I’m sure and if it cannot be taken apart how clean is it just a thought

Its a heavy tuner. Develop your load with it installed

I agree.

I had baffle strike once with a titanium moderator (cans are "standard" where I come from). It's exceedingly apparent when it happens. The first thing I noticed was the recoil. I then looked up to see the can in many pieces about 40 yards downrange.

a suppressor will produce freebore boost which will increase muzzle velocity slightly, if you are at the edge of your accuracy node this can either bring you into or push you out of that edge. or if your load is solid it may have little or no effect. also the slower shove of the recoil impulse I believe requires just a tiny bit more follow through but right now that part is still just theory to me.the reduced report from the muzzle will settle newer shooters down and often improves or makes their fundamentals a lil more solid, which is what I think most people see.

A suppressor weight can change the tune on your barrel. Start seating your bullet .005 deeper and keep seating it deeper until it groups. That may take .050 total or more. Mine seem to come into tune .035 deeper.

Yes I am. I have a Lane surpressor that I shoot on custom barrelled, trued up Remingtons for p.dogs. Have been able to get them down to one-fourth inch groups at 100 yards. All five shots. 223's, tac 20's, 6br's and 22br's. Some of my groups started at one and one quarter inch.
