Suppressor Issues

Take it apart and inspect. Sure sounds like baffle strikes to me. Another thing you might try is to put a washer between the suppressor and the barrel. Could be a timing thing.

Might be worth getting an alignment rod, or checking if anyone local has one.

Giessele makes them for about $75, there are some others out there for less. CNCWarior has them around $30. There are some carbon fiber ones out there.

McMaster-carr tool/drill rod for about $12 per 36"

Myself and 4 other guys shoot a SEG suppressor with the removable baffle system and thread and muzzle end caps. A friend of mine took his apart and cleaned it and put the baffle system in backwards and accuracy and noise reduction was terrible. Really really hurt accuracy and was much louder. I don’t know if that is a possibility or not with your suppressor.

You may be having concentricity issues... It may also be related to harmonics. I have tried suppressor son all sorts of hosts - AR-15's, AR-10's, FAL's, AK's, bolt guns, pistols, etc. Every host responds differently in terms of group size and zero shift to having weight hanging off the barrel.

Some guns have also had groups open up when a suppressor is in place, although that was rectified with tuning the load.

I would chase the concentricity issue forst because that is most likely, and also potentially most dangerous in regards to a baffle strike

I would suggest that you check the runout at the exit of the suppressor. I had one that I checked the runout on before I fired the first shot through it. The exit had .035 of runout and .030 clearance over bullet diameter. That would have yielded a baffle strike without question. Chuck up a scrap piece of barrel and thread it. Screw on the can and put a test indicator in the exit and check the runout. It may surprise you.

I highly discourage placing a washer of any fashion between the barrel shoulder and suppressor. Washers are not even closely precision made.

I have heard (but cannot confirm) that some barrels do not have the bore centered very well in the barrel. If the threads were not cut to the bore’s center…problems.

Just mentioning this because it may not be crooked threads, per se, but offset threads.

They measure the same as another rifle done by the same smith

Barrel measures .720 at the muzzle.

Can stays tight against the shoulder.

Could be the threads but I don’t think so??

I’m very stumped by this.

I just shot it again and all 5 shots were on the paper but this time 5” low and left. Shot about a 5” group.
That is kind of a thin barrel for hanging a can.

I have run into same problem, but only on the 17 and 20 caliber rifles. I have several suppressors and have talked to manufacturer a few times without results (that being said I wouldn't buy any other can, they make one of best cans on market). I work up all my loads with the can on the rifle. Not one issue with a can being the issue from 22 caliber through my 338. However, the 17 mach IV and the 20-250 will shoot sub 0.1 MOA with can off and half to 3/4 with can on. I finally gave up after a year of reloading different powders and bullets and just shoot with can off of both those calibers. Now a M1a that went through three different builders and destroyed two cans due to improper alignment with threads to can. The third builder fixed the issue, not one strike in past 500 rounds. The manufacturer of the can replaced both even though it wasn't their issue. Says a lot about a manufacturer. Back to issue your having, if the baffles are being struck it can be an issue with alignment of baffles (highly unlikely but the manufacture can clarify) or an alignment issue with threads on rifle. Should be an issue that can be fixed. Good luck.

Baffle strikes don't need to destroy the can to affect trajectory. I'm guessing you'd never have any sign of a baffle strike that moved a bullet.

For reference, I use a .308 can with no increase in group size in 6.5 CM and 224 Valkyrie. I oversized the can to avoid problems.
