A Trigger Dilema

Howdy, I have a dilema.I am having my rem 700 .243 bedded. This is what I am going to be using for some longer range prairie dog shooting-in the 400 - 500 yd range. The trigger on thisw gun is so-so.It has already been worked over by a gunsmith. Here is the dilema-I took to the gunsmith to have the action bedded and was going to have him put a jewell trigger on it.He said that jewell only recomends their triggers for bench shooting, and I'm a walk and shoot kind of guy.Mostly laying on the ground and shooting off a bipod.I am not the best shooter in the world and think a nice crisp trigger in the 16oz range would be advantagous. What would you do? Joe

Buy their hunter model with a saftey, pull the rifle apart, push the 2 pins out, and install it yourself and go hunting. You'll love your new trigger.

Joe....these guys are rite....get one from Larry....put it in yourself....your gunsmith doesnt know much about triggers....it comes with 3 different springs (one in under the lil' adj screw in the trigger shoe,,and two in the lil bag with trigger) ...the light one allows trigger adj frome 2oz to 1 lb....the size one allows aprox. 12 oz to 1 1/2 lb......the bigger (fatter one) is for 1 to 4 lib aprox.....I use the middle size one set low for aprox. 10-12 oz....just rite...and if you hunt with gloves on in the winter you can twist up to a pound or more with no problem....they are a great trigger ....it is easy to install.....Roger

I would try to find another gunsmith. Jewell manufactures a range of triggers that can fill almost any requirement. My Pierce tactical has a 1 lb. Jewell with safety that breaks like a thin glass rod. I also have BR and BR-BR Jewells set at 1½-4 oz. Jewells are tough to beat for single-stage triggers.

Geeez, maybe I should remove all my Jewell triggers on a half dozen hunting rifles and also 3-4 LR XP-100's that I've used them on for years....
I hope nothing bad will happin if I leave em in a little while longer....

Thanx guys--I feel much better now,in fact just ordered one from Larry Scott.Thanx much for the replies! Joe

You better pull 'em all out now and send 'em to me so's you won't be tempted to reinstall them.

jwill: I used to believe in having my factory remington 700 triggers tuned by a professional. After my first Jewell, that will no longer be the case. Now have four, from the 2 oz. BR models to the Hunter's at around 1#, that have been installed. Took about 15 minutes to do each, but I go real slow when I do things like that. Have a fifth waiting in the wings, for when the next Remington fails. When that spare is "active" will order another from Larry Scott. You kind of get addictated to them.

I have to agree with the others,Jewell makes a great trigger. They are pretty easy to install, and come with very good directions on adjusting them.Occasionally,on some Remingtons,a small amount of material will have to be removed from the inside area of the stock. This is not hard to do,and I've only had one that required it.You'll like it! Kyle, I deliver a Jewell trigger to you door, cheaper than anyone, including the factory, and in most cases NO WAITING. Larry @ "GREAT SCOTT" shooters products
