Jewell Trigger in a hunting rifle

I am building a small caliber prairie dog rifle that will only be used bench rest style. I am using a custom action so trying to decide on a trigger. Never had a Jewell and seriously considering one for this build. My concern is the durability of a Jewell in a hunting enviorment. Is it an issue? I shoot with a guy who has a Jewell in a BR rifle and when he was fire forming loads for his dasher he would occasionally pierce a primer. That rendered the trigger inopperative until he sent it back to the factory for repair. Are there any other issues with Jewell triggers that would make them a poor choice for a hunting rifle? Thanks for sharing any real life experiences.

Waska sounds like you will have a nice shooter when your done. I have jewel triggers on all my guns. I just finished up on a new varmint gun and its ready for action, it also has a jewel trigger. Me i like light triggers on my guns, being a benchrest shooter i feel more at home, but that's just me. I have 9 jewels and have not yet had a problem with any of them. Gabe

I've had one on a Remington action 280 Ackley hunting rifle for almost 15 years. It's been from Montana to all over the south hunting, never had an issue with it.

great point PPC, once u get a jewell theres no going back. I have them on all my hunting and tactical rigs and have never had an issue

When you blank a primer on a Jewell it can cause damage to the trigger. You need to cure the problem that is causing the primer problem. I have several Jewells, but prefer the Shilen on a hunting rifle. A 2 lb. Jewell has a little creep that won't adjust out.

And 4th and 5th before the smoke clears....
I've been using them in hunting rigs for a long time, with no problems..

I also really like the shilen for hunting or bench shooting my sporters. It is rugged and it breaks quite clean. It breaks at 2.75 lbs.
