A little reloading trick from me

That’s an over generalization that isn’t true. There are comparability charts that everyone should review to chose the right glove for the process. For example, latex is good for acetone. Nitrile is not. Latex is good for isopropanol but nitrile is rated only for limited exposure. Nitrile is good for mineral spirits and latex is not.

More importantly, cheap gloves have holes. If you’re serious about protecting yourself, buy rated gloves.
Evverything you said should be true. I have been retired for11 years now. What you said is true the published charts show a penetration rating for different types of solvents and different glove types. The various solvents have different penetration. Also penetration VS time. I worked for a big chemical company they were very serious about protection. We used to have a choice between latex and nitrile gloves. They ended up banning latex from the premises becuse guys were using them when they should have used Nitril. Been 12 years since I saw the chart. Gloves are also rated for minimal contact and something like continual contact for various solvents.. If we buy our gloves at a local store I would think Nitrile would be the only choice. Hexane was my favorite solvent for washing oils off of parts before chemical analysis of deposits.

I don't think this is off topic since all of us are using chemicals in our sport.

A decent chart: Some publish time to change glove data. They make gloves with different thicknesses and time to penetration.

Im right there with you. My reloading mentor (RIP John) taught me to use a microfiber cloth sprayed with ammonia free windex and wipe my cases down after they're lubed and sized. Has worked flawlessly for me.

I think we’re in agreement and coming from the same place. Latex is more specialized than nitrile in the chemical world, but the big one that people mess up is using nitrile with acetone at my work. Either way, the important takeaway is that there are charts and you should make sure the glove you’re using is the right type for the chemicals you’re handling.

I mandrel the neck so after sizing is when I wet tumble with no pins. i add a little alcohol to the lemi shine and dawn. If I only have a few I rollem in alcohol in a ziplock. I lube the necks with graphite when I run the mandrel.

Seriously.

It's glass cleaner.
All these over educated city folk would die if they got gasoline or diesel on them!… I’ve had my hands clear to my armpit up cattle’s asses all day long,…. No gloves, backpack sprayers leaking from every joint full of every spray imaginable, 12-16 hours a day, no gloves no hazmat suit!… worked in a sawmill over 30 years, everything from brake clean to Costic soda, I’ve had the same pair of leather gloves in my back pocket at work probably 10 years and other than a little pitch and oil there like new, I hate having them on!.. there hot!… you can’t feel what your doing and you lose about 30% if your grip with gloves on!… I hate gloves

Yeah, and my coworkers refused to put in ear protection while I jack hammered concrete a few feet from their head. They are all half deaf now... The msds sheet isn't there to prove how tough you are... Its there to prove how stupid you are...Im going to die from whiskey and bacon, not chemicals at work....

Acetone is considered hazaedous. You shouldn't get it on your habds or breathe the fumes.

Do you mean you don't lube the necks or shoulders?
You must not realize that every nail salon in the world uses acetone by the gallon to soak the ladies' hands in to clean the old polish off before they begin.
Acetone is not nearly as toxic as some people would have you believe.

Everything is hazardous!… there’s at least three threads going right now with guys practically wearing hazmat suits and at minimum gloves!…. Omg!…. I got lube on my hands!… someone call 911….welding helmets and bullet proof vests to install primers!…it’s total mayhem in the reloading world!….

Lol I think that's a bit crazy. I have been in an ocean of oil while cleaning out the bowser in a power plant. Years of exposure to who knows what as a journeyman too. Asbestos is mostly made up horse poop. However, it is very easy to avoid exposure to toxic substances in the gun room. For example, I use iosso hippie non toxic gun oil or ballistol for daily type stuff and bolt guns. I use the real stuff for my ARs, Glock, or long term storage. Hell, when I was a kid we would hold BB splitshot in our mouth when fishing so we wouldn't lose them. It's so easy to avoid exposure, why not avoid it? Spreed preemrgent yesterday with an n95 on...

I have to admit that your post made me (literally) laugh-out-loud! People often post "LOL" but few things that I read actually make that happen; yours did. Thanks for starting my day right. :D
