A good Rattle snake

The timber rattler IS protected in Texas. The game warden/facebook incident happened to one of snakepits
(A.S. member) neighbors in their subdivision. He lives in east Harris county.

Yup , there was a guy down the road from were I live who pulled over on a dirt road for a pit stop.... He dropped his pants by mistake and reached down to pick them up , it was at night and the snake didn't rattle... He got bite on the hand by a timber rattler and died before they could get him to the hospital..... Those snakes are bad news... No rattle snake bite is good but the timber will definitely kill you....

I normally leave rattlesnakes alone if they go on with there own business and leave me alone. But if he ends up becoming aggressive, he ends up being lunch or dinner!

I used to catch rattlesnakes and sell them. Last one I fooled with was a 4 footer out by Guthrie TX. It was at night and in the middle of the road. Stopped the truck with the headlights on it, got out and grabbed it by the tail. Man that snake wanted to bite me bad. It was a Prairie rattler, as pretty a one as I had ever seen. Anyway I was waiting for my buddy to dig my snake stick and bag out of the back of the truck while keeping this particularly active specimen from biting me, slowly swinging him away from my body and twisting his tail as necessary when a truck pulls up. The drive asks if I need any help, distracting me just a bit and boy that snake just missed me! Whew! Steve gives me the stick and now I can easily slide him into the bag. There was a girl in the truck and she is telling her father she wants out. He says what for and she says I want to go with those guys! We all laughed and I said, well your plenty pretty enough but I think I'll stick with snakes. Another round of laughter and we stood around drinking beer in the middle of the road for an hour. Haven't caught one since.

Nah. I’ll blast every venomous snake near the house but when I’m in the snake’s territory I’ll leave them be. Never developed the snake hatred thing.

I was just visiting my grandsons and said something about not liking snakes. The 2 1/2 year old has a couple of wooden snakes about 18 inches long each and that rascal would throw them in my path yelling "nakes! jump grandpa" ! I told him I'll just go around them. Later he would lay down some backpacks and say they were "croc--o--diles" and they cut off my route around the snakes and I had to jump those deadly obstacles!

I just saw him 2 days ago and miss him already, why does he have to live on the other side of Texas?

The rattlesnake you kill, may be the one that doesn't kill the rat/mouse that's carrying the flea that carries the plague or rabies. But, yeah, they can be totally unnerving.

I totally agree with you that snake boots are a great idea. But unless they're better than when I was growing up in AZ, a big Western Diamondback will get through and then it's stuck to the boot and thrashing around. My friend had this happen and it made a mess of his ankle. Thank God for anti-venum.

Puff Adder, basically a pissed of rattle snake without a rattle

The black mamba, this guy will make a rattler sh#t himself and have nightmares for weeks.
Grows to about 14feet and can raise their upper body around 5foot off the ground to stand erect and look you in the eye.

We have a hole selection of Cobras and other vipers as well, I don't care what boot im wearing if I see one in front of me its chitty chitty bang bang

Puffs won't strike all that high. Snake boots may stand a chance against these.

Black Mamba's are responsible for the most deaths in Africa, and there's a lot of deaths (5k a year~ish). They give everything nightmares for weeks afterwords and still some today. Even when you give them room they are super dangerous. Snake boots ain't worth a shit with these. Track shoes and a machete and preferably a gun.

Cobras- deadly to the core, but easier to deal with when given room. Unlike a Mamba.

Point is, here in 'Murica we have rattlesnakes. One of the best deterrents to getting bit is snake boots and NOT messing with the snake.

However, if you feel the need to kill them where you are not supposed to, feel free. You can put that punch on your man-card later.

And, you don't 'romp around with venomous snakes'. You wear the boots for protection. And, give the snake a little room when you do see them. Unless he's a hazard to people in the immediate vicinity.

I had a dream last nite a very yellow, very venomous snake was flying (literally) around the room. It darted under a pillow, but I was able to drag it out and grab just behind its head and near its tail end. I was just barely able to muscle it under control, even as it neared biting my hand. I screamed, cussed really, at my brother to go get a knife and cut it in half. For some reason, he didn't see the same urgency in the matter as I did to dispatch the snake. Eventually it stopped trying to bite me, and I threw it to teh ground.

No, I didn;t drop any LSD last nite, or even drink any alcohol.

True, I don't go out of my way to kill anything that doesn't bother me but I don't like snakes and I have been "face to face" with a black mamba, "boomslang", smallish puff adder, Cobras of which I killed two (yes they will chase a person that upsets them) and I have stepped on a rinkhals, doubt Ill ever forget that feeling of stepping on a snake. At least when we hunt in the winter its to cold for these guys to be out and about but we spend allot of time in the bush in summer months so you are bound to see some, those black mambas love water and allot of people find them in showers or even toilets and when they feel cornered its a bit of a problem, outside in the open you can just let them go on their way without any real problems. In rural Afrika allot of people get bitten by these guys due to them staying around the houses to hunt rats and even chickens

Posts like this just don't seem to fit a "LIKE" response. You want to leave something like "disgusting" or "repulsive" no matter how good the post is when the topic is disgusting.

A good snake is a dead snake, having watched a bird in the backyard kill and suck down a snake yesterday. I like birds.

I have killed my fair share of snakes for sure, mostly Water Moccasins. Some of the wetter areas I hunt are crawling with them and they can be agressive or want to stand their ground by laying in the middle of the trail with their mouth open showing off how white the inside of their mouth is and sticking their fangs out. I always carry a Vietnam era machete and just chop their heads off. Walking through this area where you can't see the ground during bow season takes balls but I do it anyway. I use snake chaps and have never that I know of been hit by a snake but they do instill a bit of a felling of security. I have never seen a rattler or moccasin around my house but plenty of Racers, Bull snakes, Texas rat snakes and a few copperheads. I kill every copperhead I find, my dogs and Grandkids are worth far more to me than any pretty snake. I leave the first three snakes to kill rats and mice, I have even gone out and caught rat snakes and let them go around the house and barn.
