A good Rattle snake

Today at dusk I was just finished mowing the lawn and putting the mower away. I encountered this monster Timber Rattler under the deck and boy was it pissed. I left the mower there and got a rifle. I couldn't see it's head so I just rapid fired about 12 rounds into the coiled mass. It worked out just fine.IMG_20210724_182909099.jpg

12GA auto ... reloaded ... then 12ga auto again. Absolutely.

Bummer, Mr. Rattler, but y'all shouldn't go hootin' and hollerin' at calf-level if y'all want to be survivin' in these parts.

I'll take a handful of good-sized King snakes, instead. Have one nearby where I live. Helps keep the place free of mice, moles and other critters. Wish we had a couple more. Definitely one of the "good guys."

Lol, you guys and the serpents. Mag dump and ruin the skin, something that could be put out of service with a stick.

My dad was the same way, shotgun, then the hoe. The burn barrel was then fired up and the unlucky asp was then deposited into the inferno. Nerves or not if it was moving it wasn’t dead.

Guys I praire dog hunt with are scared stiff of snakes period. An old fan belt strategically placed will make them “high step it”, lol.

Yes, since it was nearly dark and I couldn't see it's head, and my rifle isn't sighted in for 12 feet I decided to go with the Spray and Pray technique. Worked fine this time.

We've lived here for 20 years and this is the first Rattler I've ever seen, lots of Kings and Black Snakes but they couldn't possibly deal with something like this beast.

That is one fat snake ! Eating well no doubt..

We get then on cell sites occasionally. I do my damndest to not kill them and just move them away and throw them over the fence with a stick.

We have probably a hundred hours of cellular outage a year from mice getting into the sites and chewing fiber or power. Never seen a snake take a cell site down and none of us have ever been bit in my 23 years. The rattle snakes do get extra attention over the black snakes or corn snakes.

Your house, your rules. Not at all second guessing the OP. I just appreciate the work they do without risking poisoning the hawks.

That one has been around quite a while and you just never saw it before. Good dead snake for sure!

You might want to cut it open to see what is inside. We killed a big one like that at our dove field last year; had 13 little ones inside right ready to be born.
Also, took both of my sons PD shooting this year (43 & 47) and the younger one wanted to go out and inspect the carnage after his first day of PD shooting. Found a nice big prairie rattler coiled up by a PD hole with a PD inside. I have shot PD's with those folks for the past 15 years or so and this is the first snake I have ever seen.

Killed this one with the babies all close by. Killed the little ones with a broom handle. The momma was under some crap so shot her. We always have to worry about our dogs getting struck.
