8208XBR, your best experience

What caliber are you having the best luck with using 8208XBR?

223
6.0x47L
6.5x47L
6BRX
6BR

Just looking for sucess stories and will go to work on mine!

DennisH;

I don't shoot all of the listed calibers, I'm a prairie dog shooter, not a BR'er.

I like IMR 8208 XBR, a lot. The biggest reasons, it fills the case, and it's not temp sensitive. On a prairie dog town when it's 100 to 105 degrees, you don't want pressure spikes, I've been there, ugly things can happen.

I get very consistent velocity and small groups by filling the case with no big air pockets. I don't shoot hot loads, if dogs get out to far, I move. Saves ware and tare on my barrel and me.

The calibers I shoot the most and use IMR 8208 XBR:

223 Rem - Maybe 2,000 rounds 50 Hornady VMax 24.8/2900 fps
22 PPC - 3,000 rounds a year 50 Hornady VMax 27.8/3500 fps
6 PPC - 3,000 rounds a year 58 Hornady VMax 28.5/3300 fps
22 BR - 3,000 rounds a year Use mostly AA2230
6 BR - 3,000 rounds a year 70 Speer TNT HP 32/3300 fps

Hope this helps!!!!!

Started messing around with it last year, 6BR with 68 Bergers. Still need to do some tuning but encouraging results. Also tried it with the heavier 105 class bullets but didn't seem to work as well at the std. Varget/RL15.

Dennis,
I picked up a pound of it to try with my 6.5x47, but I have no ideal on what powder load to start with.

We had very good luck shooting 8208XBR from a .308 Win tubegun shooting 155gr Bergers. Accuracy was as good as Varget, and we got slightly more velocity and a lower ES/SD. In the .308, in this rifle with krieger barrel, the 8208 seemed to offer a bigger accurate load window -- almost a full grain in .308 case.

Yip 8208XBR shoots awesome with projectiles under 155gr in the 308. Very small ES & SD from practically every load. That would be my choice of powder for lighter projectiles in the 308. I haven't got round to trying in anything smaller yet apart from my 6BRX but it didn't really work that well unless the projectile was under 80gr.

I've used it successfully in my .223 service rifle (77s and 80s), 6RAT space gun (80FB, 90BT, and 105VLDs), 6BRX prone gun (105VLD), and .308 Palma rifle (2156 Sierra, 155 Berger Hybrid).

A few folks (whose opinions on such things I respect) have found it to be finicky or otherwise not shoot well, but my experience has been excellent. It didn't take much effort to get it working very well, gave excellent chrony numbers, shot small (or tiny!) groups, cleans very easily, and, most importantly, has shot some very good scores.

It doesn't do anything miraculous, of course. But I've been very happy with it.

8208 works great in my recently purchased 6PPC. Did not have any VV133 as recommended by previous owner, so used 8208 and got .12 on first time out load development.

I am going to try it in my 223 with 69 smk's, my 6.0x47L w/105's, and my BRX w/107's

KT is looking for a starting point for his 6.5x47 Lapua!

Any more suggestions will be appreciated. I recieved a few PM's, but could use a few more.

I have been using it very successfully in the .240 tomahawk which is alot like a 6 br. Here is some load dada if it helps you out...

Dennis-
You know I'm big on 8208 for my .308 with the 155.5 FB's. It runs about 1.5 grains less than Varget for comparable speeds from what I have seen.
I 'm gonna try it with my 80 SMK's in my .223 and start at around 23.8, since my Varget load is 24.4 grains.
I don't shoot lighter than 75's in my bolt rifle.

That's the best .223 (AR) group to date at 300 yards. Shot in a Colt 6724, Jewell trigger and Tubb flat spring and CWS, Leupold Mark4 - 16X with a dot. 24" - 5.56 chambered SS barrel.

Experience has shown that the powder is not as consistent as I would like from lot to lot. Velocity versus pressure is excellent however with heavier bullets in the .223/5.56 cartridge. I shot it today in a 6 PPC and was not happy with the results as to accuracy.

Also working well in .308 with 155 SMK's
