Why would you want to take a case that many shooters think is too small for the 6.5 140's and move up to a heavier 7mm?

One good reason is to be able to use the 7 MM 120 Nosler Ballistic tips.... Should be a hell of a deer harvesting machine......

I would hardly call the 6.5mm version under powered. If it had any more powder capacity it would be just another throat burner.

For a long-barrel match rifle, I'd agree with you 100%. In this case though, the OP intends to use a 16-inch barrel and the small 6.5X47 case is very efficient in this sort of length. Even in its 6.5 parent version, 14-16 inches provides 100% charge burn with most powders.
