Then again, you could make 7MM08 brass from 308 Palma brass and have the small primer pockets and more case capacity for the heavier bullets. The largest atraction the 47 has is the small primer pocket. I would base your coice there.![]()

It is not, but it won't hurt and you will have a rifle in an off the shelf chambering. If you want something different do the 7-47L and go down the road of custom dies and making brass. If you want something that shoots and has component and reloading availability, do the 7-08.Funny you mention this , i found lapua do the brass last night , but I am still wondering if the extras case capacity is needed with such a short tube.
Best advice you will get!It is not, but it won't hurt and you will have a rifle in an off the shelf chambering. I think it would be a great case, but it won't be any better than a 7-08, just different. Since Lapua started making 7-08 brass it's pretty easy to get these days too. I think on most rifles the difference in capacity would not make much difference, esp if you weren't planning to push big pills. Now if you start thinking of running anything heavier than the 140s I think you'd really miss the extra capacity for the slower powders to get the heavies up to speed.
I've never been in the "if Lapua doesn't make the brass I won't build it" group. To date I shoot mostly WW brass, but Winchester seems to have all but stopped producing reloading components so having Lapua availability is really nice. I'm coming to accept that the WW 308 brass that I have left may be the last I see for a very long time, and I'm damned glad I stocked up on WW 243 for my 6SLR when it was available.
No need for custom die's just use a 6.5x47 Lapua bushing die and open the ledge the bushing sets on.
It's done ever day on lots of different calibers...
I have a 22x47, a 6x47, a 25x47 a 6.5x47, and a 6.5x47 Ackley, and thats the only one I can not use the original 6.5x47 Lapua die with..
I also plan on a JGS reamer for the 7x47 Lapua one of these days just to fill in the void 'O)
These are all short barreled XP-100 barrels from 18" to 20"..........
