7WSM + 300WSM Need Pet Loads

7mm WSM Tatical rifle
Nesika Action Trueflight 1:9 29" Dan Hardy Supressor

Winchester Brass
Federal Magnum Primer
Reloader 25 72 grains
Berger 180 Hunting seated 20 thou off the lands AOL 3.1"

This is a new barrel so still testing, Velocity is 3130fps after 2 foulers but @ around 10 shots fired its ramping up to 3186fps but no additional preassure signs. The primer is just starting to flatten and the brass is lasting well. This load is producing a .345moa group.

Win brass (7mm WSM)
CCI LRM
68.5 Gr RL25
168 VLD (hunting and target)
jumped .170"
3020 FPS 26.5" 1-9 kreiger
Savage action
very near max in this gun
best to date is .860" at 300 yards

Yesterday at the range I had good results with my 7 WSM.
58.0 grs. H100V, 168 Berger & Fed 215GMM primers. 10 shot string avg. 2926 fps with a SD 11 fps. Hope to try it at 1000 yards tomorrow.

I've got a 7mm WSM with a short barrel - 20 1/2" from the end of the receiver (rem model 7). I'm having trouble getting anything to shoot a decent group. The first cold bore shot can be wild - 4 inches off to the left - then successive shots start to group together. I've tried Federal 140 gr nosler, 160 gr noslers and winchester silver tips. I'm thinking I need to swap barrels. Any suggestions?

This is my latest load for my 300WSM Varminter:
69gr IMR 8208XBR
Wolf LRM primer
Norma brass with necks turned to .013
110gr Barnes TTsx
2.905 COAL

The attached Quickload is using the (supposed) powder equivelant to IMR 8208-XBR, ADI2206. The QL projected velocity shows 3900fps. My actual results through my PVM-21 are well above 4000fps and very accurate. And, no sighn of pressure.

This gun has a .337nk with ZERO free-bore. Has a 30 inch Bartlein barrel with 1-16 twist rate.

7WSM with 28" Benchmark barrel in a Desert Tactical Arms Stealth Recon Scout
Win Brass
CCI LRM Primers
168 Berger HVLD

Groups are under .5 MOA at 3225fps. Using an unconventional powder (not listed for the 7WSM in any of the manuals) so I'm hesitant to post the info until I've had the chance to test it in a conventional rifle. More testing to follow soon, but I've fired 200 rounds through the DTA rifle thus far with this combination.

I have been working with one lately, a Savage custom shop with 26" #4 contour, left hand and Accustock (sporter).

W-W brass - horrible quality!
Fed 215
180 grain Berger VLD
69 grain Ramshot magnum @ 2975 fps

About .4 MOA @ 500 yds

I think this is pretty much max in this rifle. Had a couple of loads over 3000 but they were a little sticky.

I fireformed some 300WSM brass and will try it on for size.

Keep em coming!

Factory Savage model 16(?) in SS/tupperware stock. 7mm WSM. Strictly bought for hunting. S Africa second stop. Im using WW brass which upon weighing 150 of them yielded about 120 cases weighing within about 1 grain or less. Outriders are pretty wild in variance. The load is strictly for hunting and Im using the Barnes .284 160 gr TSX, as the tipped bullets are too long for std. chamber and action. H-1000 has proven to work well at 70.3 gr. Primer is CCI BR2. COL is 2.845. 24" SS factory barrel. Velocities at 38* have hovered around 3050 with brass behaving well. I have not chrono'd a meaningful number of shots but the 5 or 6 so far fell in that range. Workng up this load along with a few using R25 have all fallen into a composite group of about 28 shots into about 2" at 200 yd. Mostly Ive fired paired shots in varied conditions, cold, windy, raining, ant etc. Ive quite impressed with the overall accuracy of this factory unit. As a complete aside but still a load for the 7mm, is the use of a Wolf LRM with 9.5 gr of AL7(sorry Ive a ton left) and a Lyman 140 gr cast bullet without gas check, jammed with fingers into a neck turned case. Bullet is tumble lubed with Lee liquid alox. This will provide about 2" groups at 100 yd, velocity seems to hang around 1100 fps and , I can center groups at the top of the coarse crosshair with the scope set at 5 and a half power.Might be good for small game or just plinking and pratice--No leading!!! I set them up for casual practice. Sorry for the long wind. A bit more wind, Taking a 300 also. The load for it is a Barnes 168 BT TSX, driven by 68.6 grains of RE19, COL of 2.805", Wolf LRM primer. All of this in a Remi 700 SPS 24" factory barrel, velocity holding about 2990 fps. The accuracy at 200yd is consistently < 2". 3 shot groups. All this at 75*. Load seems warm, but seems to provide no pressure issues. The bullets in both calibers are WS2 plated, and show little signs of fouling at over 50 shots per session.

Your results sound exactly like mine, during testing I was running a Hbn coated 162 A-max in a 7wsm with a 26" Broughton 5c with 68.4 grns of IMR-7828ssc and getting 3225 fps at sea level. Although that load was very accurate out to 1K I decided to drop it back to the 3150 range in order to keep from toasting my barrel in under 500 rounds.

Hi Jon
How many rounds can you shoot between cleanings with that load before accuracy starts to drop?
Thanks

I wasn't and will not use IMR powders for any of my rifles but I could do go 100 - 150 rounds between cleanings. It might not HAVE to be cleaned then, but I'm from the "better safe than sorry" camp.

Any particular reasons you don't use IMR powders? I don't have much experience with them other than 7828SSC which has been a great powder in my F-Class 284 Shehane. Don't know much about the others.
Thanks.

I like powders that are a little more temperature stable. While the IMR stuff is predictable, it don't sit still very well.

I've been loading 65.5grs of Re#22 behind 162gr Amax for 3150 out of a 26"Brux. Is that a bbl burning load ? Also 69grs of Re#25 same bullet for about 3175 .

I have 2 good hunting loads for the 300WSM:

72 grs RL-17
130 gr Barnes TTSX
CCI 250 primer
Velocity is 3650 fps from my barrel

68 grs RL-17
168 gr Berger VLD Hunting
CCI 250
Velocity is 3200 fps.

Both are very accurate loads. From a Pac-nor 24" tube.
