Why is it that you never hear of a 7mm08 being used in bench rest? Is it because of the dominance of the 6.5's and Br's? Just curious.

Hey that's a good question, 7mm-08 is a great caliber but you don't see it in bench rest do you? I have heard alot of guys to use it in silhouette. Check out the other 7mm-08 forum in the hunting section too!

Until recently, it was difficult to acquire a steady supply of 7mm match grade bullets.

If you mean 1000yd BR, then its simply because it doesn't have enough powder capacity to drive the best high BC 7mm bullets at optimum velocity. The larger case of the 284Win for example will drive the 170-180gn projectiles at up to 2900fps. I'd imagine a 7mm/08 would be well under that, so would be disadvantaged when it comes to the critical aspect of wind drift.
