7mm Rem SAUM loads for F Class

Scott. I just heard that someone had some success at the Williamsport World Open shooting the SAUM with H4831SC. I don't have any details

I too am looking forward to running the 7mm SAUM. I'll be using Rem brass and feeding from a mag.

Anybody know what my average capacity will be with 168 VLD's loaded to 2.9" COAL ?

Recommendations for powder and primers?

Thanx

Tondar, this thread seems to be achored around Retumbo and H1000. This is what I have shot in mine and it works well. I haven't tried anyother primers besides WLR. I've ran my loads near the upper end of what the Hodgdon reloading manual gives in MY RIFLE. 65fan has good info and you are above min. lenght for that bullet. Build some rounds of various weights and test. Good luck and be careful.

Good point 65 fan on the compressed charge pushing the bullet back out. I don't have a lot of squeeze. I have tried up to 66 grains of Retumbo with a 215 primer, .010" back, and had no pressure issues with my 180 Bergers and Norma brass. Seating I can hear a little crunch so I don't want to try squeezing in more than 66. The recoil is smoother than 62 grains of RE-25 but the necks look more sooted so it may be dirtier? My velocity data was corrupted by the @#!!$ operator. One sensor wasn't clicked in so my spacing was 3/4" off. Retumbo was faster than H1000 and RE-25 in my 30" pipe. Keep this one going folks. Thanks.
I shot a pressure test today 95 degree's retumbo 64.0 2870,64.5 2924,65.0 2952,65.5 2973,66.0 3020.all with 180 beregers and 250 primers.this was shot over crony to target at 418yrds 3 shots had no vertical.I will be lattering her up tomarow. ;D ;D
Hey 65Fan, How did your Ladder Test Go,Let us know,
Keep it giong

I have found 162 A-max 20 thou off hard engrave with 63.8 grains of RL 25 and CCI BR2 primers to be very accurate. It will print in the .1's and .2's pretty consistantly if I do my part.

Two months have passed and I finally had a chance to shoot again but it was too windy for a grouping test. In a 30" melonited pipe, FED 210's, Norma brass, Berger 180's the 66.0 grains of Retumbo measured 3070 fps with single digit spread. (Quickload told me 3046 fps, amazing when I don't know all the quirks yet.) 63.0 grains of H-1000 was 2940 (Quickload said 2978). 62.0 grains of RE-25 was 2985 (Quickload said 3016). The temp was 82 F. The Retumbo ejector marks were very slight, the RE-25 and H-1000 looked a touch hotter, but very close. The Retumbo recoil feels just like the Quickload pressure plot looks, steady. I am using a QSM Magnum Ti suppressor. Recoil and sound are missing and I don't miss them. I can't wait to group at range. 66 grains of Retumbo fills my brass to the top of the shoulder, no more room.

thats good data with different powders! so you would say that those loads are near max?

how is your norma brass holding up? did you toughen them up with a lighter load first or just go to the top end?

nice work keep us posted on your accuracy testing!

According to Quickload with the default temp (whatever that is), all of these loads are 62 -63 ksi pressure. My eyes tell me that they are all very close at 82 F. I think they have margin for a little hotter day, but not a lot. I have a large bucket of Norma brass prepped so I will nearly shoot out my barrel to shoot them all once. The Norma is softer than the Lapua I am used to. Lapua will pierce a primer before I get a noticeable ejector witness mark. A hot day with N560 in my 6.5-284 taught me that lesson. I see companies that anneal necks, I guess that cartridge brass can only be hardened by cold forming? Somebody should autofrettage mine hard for me. I think RE-17, 4350, and 4831 will be too high of pressure to hit the 3 grand mark. Ramshot Magnum looks like a possibility too. I have been impressed with temp insensitivity with Ramshot Tac which is close to zero over 70 degrees F. Magnum may be as good? This Powder is from Belgium, can you get it downunder?

yeah norma brass is much cheaper in the US. over here we pay 2x lapua price >:( bloudy importers have us by the b----! rough conversion we pay $200US / 100 for norma

i hear that N560 is scary stuff!!

no i havnt seen ramshot mag around before. re25 and retumbo is avalible but not as common as the hogdon powders. have you used retumbo in extream temps before seems like it might be a go to powder?

I tried some Ramshot Magnum in my 284 Shehane, and if I remember correctly, it is a ball powder and could not be compressed at all. I gave it to a friend to try in his 338 Lapua. I don't know if it would over-fill either the SAUM or WSM cases.

Looks like you are right. I show that you will have a 4-5% compressed charge to get up over the 3000 mark. I have never tried compressing a ball powder before. Looks like I will pass on that. I will try some cold testing on Retumbo and RE-25 soon enough.
