Intermediate actions are almost ideal for the 284 Win.A .284 in a medium action?
The only bullets with high grains for the .284 I'd be interested in, is a 168 grain barnes lrx, the 175 grain partition abd the 175 grain hornady eld-x.What do you want to know ? This forum is the best place for asking specific questions.
If you use the popular 284 powders (H4831sc/H4350) you'll definitely be in the 3000+ fps range with the 168s. I use RL17 because it gets me there with the 2.975 OAL. The 4350 will for sure get you well into the 3000s.The only bullets with high grains for the .284 I'd be interested in, is a 168 grain barnes lrx, the 175 grain partition abd the 175 grain hornady eld-x.
I believe the 160 grain accubond will fit fine, if I've read everything correctly.
Unsure obviously on energy down range and FPS obviously if I was to use the full availabile 3.110 COAL.
Should I use quickloads to get more specific data or is there another tool?If you use the popular 284 powders (H4831sc/H4350) you'll definitely be in the 3000+ fps range with the 168s. I use RL17 because it gets me there with the 2.975 OAL. The 4350 will for sure get you well into the 3000s.
QL certainly isn't the gospel but it can be a very useful tool and, for me, if I input the correct specific information to the cartridge I'm working with it's generally pretty damn close.Should I use quickloads to get more specific data or is there another tool?
Never used RL26 for my 6.5-284s. I'm keeping it for my 25-284. Once I can aquire another 8lbs, I'll feel betterShould I use quickloads to get more specific data or is there another tool?
But at what barrel length? If you use the popular 284 powders (H4831sc/H4350) you'll definitely be in the 3000+ fps range with the 168s. I use RL17 because it gets me there with the 2.975 OAL. The 4350 will for sure get you well into the 3000s.
G7 in order. .256, .245, .358, .236.The only bullets with high grains for the .284 I'd be interested in, is a 168 grain barnes lrx, the 175 grain partition abd the 175 grain hornady eld-x.

I'm at 25". With H4350 and 162s, I've been hitting 2920 with my 2.975 OAL. My thought process is with a 3.1", he should be in the 3000s fairly easy if he's looking for that number. Velocity isn't everything but for me I tried for that 3K with my preferred bullet weight. If you shot RL17, that number is easily achievable and not a hot load. I prefer RL17 as it's easier to make velocity I want with less work. It's accurate also. But at what barrel length?
I'm no where near those velocities with my 24" barrel on a commercial Mauser action.
Not sure I follow. Your not gaining anything going from a 284 to a 7mm PRC or 6.8 Western of any significance. Kinda why IMO it's not worth jumping into a magnum bolt action. Opinions vary of course. For me it just wasn't worth it for what I wanted.Numbers wise besides the fact the .284 is a .308 bolt face, compared to the 6.5 PRC and 6.8 western, it's not as much energy being carried at range. Very interesting
The 6.8 ?I dunno.
The more i look at it, the more it interests me.
But different interests me.
Hence why i'm looking at the 7mm LRM & 7.21 Lazzeroni Tomahawk.
Nope, the 7mm.The 6.8 ?
So the 7mm prc is what interest you?Nope, the 7mm.
