7mm 190gr A tip

Hi Dave.
Did you need a different seating stem for the very pointy 190gr A tips..??

I know that their own special seating stem is recommended but I haven’t used Hornady’s stem with any of the A-Tips I have used in .30, 338 or now 7mm. I would have if even slight damage was being done seating, but none was. My normal stems aren’t touching near the aluminum tip, or indenting the jacket.

Unfortunately, the entire time I have had any 190 Atips, my closest 1,000 yard range has been closed. At 600, they shoot very well, as expected, but that’s really not much of a test.

My barrels actually do work fine with standard spec throats, but I can feel that these are definitely pushing on or into the donut a little more, when loaded into older brass. But I prefer that to a jam. A jam doesn’t help accuracy for me, could be trouble in a cease fire, and is harder on lugs.

I've never done any jams for that reason. ..!!
The only bullet I've had touching the rifling was the 7mm 180gr ELDM's..
1 or 2 thousanths in maximum. I only did that as club mate had great accuracy from touching.. both my saum barrels and 284 liked it the same..!!
I've never bothered with the arbour press just use the Redding seater with micrometre which probaly has a vld stem in it.

An email was posted on a shooting website from the NRA saying that Bisley the main range in the UK won't be opening for bookings until September onwards at the moment :(. That's really bad news and still not a definate thing..?
The European f class championship was booked for early September but it's such a big event as shooters come from all around Europe and it's alot to organise just for it to get cancelled..!!
What's the situation in the US on the shooting restrictions..??

All NRA sanctioned matches suspended until June 1 at minimum. All National champ matches cancelled for the year; includes all rifle or pistol disciplines.

Our club is proceeding with its Fclass matche in May, regardless.

Is Bayou Rifles holding the LR match this coming Saturday David? If on Saturday I may be able to make it. It appears Long Range Alley will hold a Sat 1000/ Sun 600 on the weekend of May 16/17.

I don’t think Bayou is shooting any matches, I believe they said all may events, even work sessions, were all cancelled along with HP.

OK...I thought so. I just looked at the Juliff calender and they show a 1000yd/60 shot match on Saturday, 5/9 instead of the usual first Sunday of the month. Even if this event is cancelled I hope it is a change from Sunday matches to Saturday matches as it would be much more conducive for me to shoot there more often. One can hope:).

It's going to be a long year :(.
It's good that club shoots are still planned to go ahead for you

@Rope2horns Norm, I am definitely NOT certain. What gives me hope is that at LRSL-LLC.com the calendar lists a combined 1000/600 shoot 5/16-17. It also is listed on a banner above the calendar. Scrolling back to April's calendar shows matches that were cancelled and labelled as such and the 5/16-17 matches are not listed as such. However, I have an email in to Ric Clarke to confirm the status of the match. The stay at home order is to be lifted on 5/15...unless Dumb Bel Edwards changes it again:rolleyes:. I'll try to contact Ric by phone if I don't hear from him in the next day or so and I'll post the status in a separate thread as I know it would likely be well attended if shooters were made aware.

I got this Bayou email on Thursday.

All May HP events at Bayou Rifles are cancelled.

This includes

  • Workdays
  • Long Range Qualifications (LRQ)
  • Long Range Monthly Match
  • Across the Course Monthly Match
  • Mid-Range Monthly Match
  • Garand Match

An email will be sent when the monthly HP events are resumed.

FYI – The NRA has suspended all NRA sanctioned tournaments nationwide for the month of May.

Aww...I'm sure he doesn't care...there isn't crap happening in the UK right now anyway...what else does NID have to do:D
We have the highest death count in Europe . Another 649 deaths in the last 24 hours.. that must be about the average .
I'm still working .
Not too much has changed for me apart from I can't go out far or shooting .

Same here NID, have remained working in healthcare field. Our ranges are open for members and I have a private range for LR that is available. All of our competitions are cancelled though. Stay safe.

Thanks ;)
Nothing is open here.
I think the main governing bodies are pushing for the vermin and deer management restrictions to be lifted as most of us shoot alone .
Stay safe..
