7mm-08AI- yes, no?

It's 23". I have been having probs with this rifle. The bolt was touching the bbl and I was getting pressure and poor accuracy. I finally figured the necks were too tight. The Fed cases measured 0.315+ and SAMMI chamber is 0.316". I trashed 25 cases in about 7 firings with loose primer pockets. Was getting 2600+fps. Anyway, I am back to square one, and using neck turned brass (0.312"). May try upping velocity, but if the lower loads work, I don't mind, for what I am competing in. Ron.

PS:Are any of you 7-08 shooters HAVING to turn necks? Maybe some, WW or Lapua, are thinner, haven't tried them.

Sorry to hear its been temperamental for you, my 7mm-08 was a real challenge to find a load for, no barrel/chamber issues just finicky.

That's a really good question re the necks. I haven't heard anything but I'm pretty knew to this, hopefully someone more experienced will chime in.

I am a fan of the ackley cartridges. I have owned sevral diffrent ones.

I had a custom built 7/08 AI on a Surgeon action. It was a med weight tactical rifle. I only ran the barrel 24 inches which I should have left a few more inches on that barrel IMO

My rifle was throated for the 162 Amax. It honestly shot very good up close and at distance. I was getting 2800 fps with a 162 and H4350 with no signs of pressure in rain.

Is it a good round......Yes

But I will say that if I were to start fresh and wanted a caliber to shoot a similar bc to a 162 Amax I would stick with the 6.5X47 throated for the 140 Berger Hybrid. Mine is crazy accurate at 100 and 1000. Im getting 2793 fps with the 140 and Varget and a 26.5 barrel . Anyone who says a 6.5X47 is to small of a case for a 140 needs to try one out.

The A-maxs are great bullets but this barrel just doesn't seem to like them. The 175 SMKs are doing 2775 and shooting great. Got to stretch her legs the other day and shot at 700, did amazingly well. We're headed to wy for pds on mon, will post back on how it goes.

I have a 24 inch 1.9.5 twist heavy barrel 7/08 AI and it is very impressive I have taken several Elk deer and coyotes all one shot in the dirt kills , As for feeding ant a problem the gun id built on a long action it shoots the 140 gr Nozlers @ 3115 it also shots 120 gr 110 and 100 gr very well . But the best think next to the FPS is not trimming cases .
I shot a 3.5 700 yard group and this gun id a hunting rig . so the 7/08 has my vote hope this helps DD

Shot my 7-08 Shilen DGA this am at 400 yds. Five groups (3 shots) averaged about 2.4". With 162 AMax, 41 to 43 gr W760, 3.080"OAL. Wind was about 10mph R to L. Velocity was about 2450fps. Loaded single shot. This is a fairly light barrel, MS wood stocked rifle, and a Simmons Whitetail Hunter scope at 20X. Bullet is about one half way into shoulder.

Not that great, but I like what I am seeing. The best group (42.0gr) appears to be the second bull from bottom, on left side. About 2.75" with no elevation. The next bull up, 42.6gr wasn't bad. Now if I can just remember my comeups for the next 200-400-100 yd match. Ron.
