700 Remington??

According to my SN the rifle was made after 1968 & not later than 1975. It is a BDL sporter in .223. Did this rifle come from the factory with a 1-12 twist?? I looked on the site but never found an answer. Thanks guys.....Lynn

There should be a two letter code on the left side of the barrel shank. The first letter will be one of the following:

BLACKPOWDERX

Where B = January, L = February, etc.

The second letter is the year, and can take a little deductive reasoning to get a good answer.

I'm going to guess it's the AT code, so March 1970. The other options for T are 1926 or 1999. The AO looks like larger font than I'm used to seeing for date codes, but maybe someone else can confirm that or not.

It has a newer finish.

Dave is probably right. I didn't even consider the serial number prefix. I just went off the op's initial assumption of '68 to '75.

I'll go stand in the corner and face the wall now...

I think March 1999, I agree first pair of letters after final inspector mark. Check connector. One or 2 piece.

I also believe the rifle is later than 75 because of the finish. I measured the twist this evening & count 1 in 12. Is this correct for this model year rifle?

Looks like 1999 production. Standard twist for .223 is 1/12.

Another clue is the antibind cut in the bolt lug. I have a 1968 mod and the antibind cut does not exist. That was from the left over 722 actions when the 700 was introduced. The slot was showing up by 1970
