6x47L for hunting

I would like to see how many are using the 6x47L for hunting medium size game like whitetail deer. Also what bullet is being used.

I have a 7 twist and 9 twist in 6x47... the 9 twist is used for stalking and target , I just change which tips I use. For hunting I use Speer's Grand Slam 100 gr and took 30 fallow deer with them last season. Mostly neck shot from a high seat!

I had a 6x47 Lapua built by Mark Pharr for my dad, I loaded him 105 A-Max bullets and he has only shot a couple coyotes with it and he loves it! The plan is that he will use it for everything including white tail deer. Can't go wrong with a 6x47 Lapua, very accurate!

Have you taken any double lung shots with it and if so how far?

Peter, If you are considering this rifle for double lung shots, with correct projectile you can put it right alongside a 243 (indistinguishable in the field). There are thousands of people who hunt with a 243. Most find it big enough. Some do not. A lot of bad projectile choice is to blame. As Erik and JH pointed out though, the accuracy of this cartridge may make you double think where you take that shot ----.
Plenty of good bullets developed for 243. Some other good bullet choices (in addition to above) would be nosler partitions (85, 95, 100gr), nosler Ballistic tips (90, 95gr make sure you avoid the "varmint" lighter ones for deer), Hornady 85 Gr Interbond or 100Gr Interlock (excellent on pigs/hogs in my 243), and if you want a high BC hunting round the BERGER hunting 105 should be a real performer etc etc.

I bought a 10 twist 6x47 last year and killed two antelope with it, both 1 shot kills at 250 +/- yards. I was using Speer 85 grain bullets. This year I think I will use the 105 grain Speer Hot-core, now discontinued, and see how they work. One thing I have learned in the last 10 years is that you don't need a cigar sized shell to kill animals and that a light recoiling gun is much easier to shoot in the prone position where you can place your bullets. Anybody want to buy a 7mm STW or 270 Weatherby so I can build another 6mm? Tom ;D
