loking for 6mm build advise

I have a Schneider 6mm - 7.5 twist #5 fluted barrel- Stiller Predator action- Mcmillan stock- jewell trigger waiting for a new build. I was thinking of a 6mm using 115 grain berger hunting vld's(have 600). I am undecided about caliber, I was thinking 6xc - 243 or 6x47l. It will be a hunting - shooting rifle. I have one of each and am leaning towards the 6x47l. I realy like my 6.5 & 6x47lapuas that I already have. Very open to all suggestions.

I am currently building a similar gun, Krieger 6mm 7.5 twist, Stiller Predator action, Timney 2-8oz trigger and GRS long range stock.

I will chamber in 6XC, already got a 6BR and .300 win mag.

the reason for 6XC is amazing accuracy at 600-1000m with 105-115gn bullets.

I want things simple, and since Norma has 6XC cases then I'm ready to try this caliber.

I don't want to fireform or do any modification on my cases other than trim and neckturn.

I WAS in the same position you're in. I decided on the 6-6.5 x 47 for a few reasons. The FIRST AND FOREMOST is the use of a small primer by the '47. You can ALMOST not ruin a case.. The primer pockets, even under pretty stout loads, stay tight. Anyone shooting a 6.5 x 284 OR a 284 (and it's siblings) knows that if you even TRY to push those BIG bullets, you will have very short brass life, via expanded primer pockets. I know as I have a 6.5 x 284. I have burned out 2 barrels on a 6.5 x 47 and have NEVER experienced loose primers... Now admittedly, I have not tried a 6XC... It's brass may be a lot more resilient in the web area>>>I just don't know. At any rate, with the 6-6.5 x 47, you can drive 105-108 bullets at a comfortable 3075f.p.s. I am quite sure you can drive the 115's at 2950+ with the 6-6.5 x 47... It is JUST as easy to make>>>simply chamfer the OUTSIDE of the case neck well of your 6.5 x 47 brass and run it in your 6-6.5 x 47 die and you,re in business! Also, if you notice, all the "siblings" of the 308 Win. case are ALL very accurate. The same will be for the 6.5 x 47.

And unless you are running a tight necked chamber, you won't NEED to neck turn the Norma brass.

well.. the need might be less than the want.. I just turned some of the brass and it actually needed it.. just cleaned the neck with the neckturner, still a few spots that the neckturner didn't clean so the necks were a bit uneven...

Copy, strange , all my lots have been very consistent and a pleasure to see the low variance., but I'm sure you could always gt a nice clean up on any brass made.

Good shooting to you.

Re: looking for 6mm build advise

I am looking for a 6mm build for competing in VBR 1000yd. My present heavy gun is a 6br and I have lost cases to loose pockets with as little as 3 loads with norma brass and they are small primers pushing 105 a-max and 107smks Ben. My light gun is a 25-06 pushing 115 bergers at a stout 3,125fps and have not had any primer issues, just split necks and the case necks splitting lol. I am interested in the 6-6.5x47 and the 6xc because of the ability to buy brass or easy resize. I would like the dasher but not sure of any gain for the work involved in making brass. Accuracy between them with a 105 to 115 bullet is what I don't know about, all thoughts welcome.

my 6 xc has served me well. I am pushing the 115s (DTAC)up over 3100 through a 30 inch barlien (7.7 twist ). I noticed a bit more wieght variation + or - 5 grains in my new batch of norma brass. That said I loaded it staight from the bag and have shot 2 cleans in a row. I will be the first to say I like the large primer hole better than the small. Use H4350 and never look back !

I had the 6XC and its a nice round but I do like Roberts 6SLR better. Its very accurate and has the HP to push the 115s to 3000fps without any pressure and you get better barrel life because of the slower burning powders.

FREDJ -

Howdy !

I'm use a 6mm wildcat, chamber made by running a 6mm Remington reamer in " short"; to obtain a .466" base diam.

I utilize 7X64 Brenneke as the parent brass.

This wildcat I call " Deep 6 " which has case capacity in the 6XC - 6X47 range.

By making use of bottom-portion of the 7X64 case, the resulting " Deep 6 " cases are very robust, and have the same long neck and easy-to-form 26* shoulder angle of the 6mm Rem.
7X64 Brenneke is one of the few Euro-spec cases that SAAMI keeps data on.

Deep 6 can be formed. loaded & re-loaded w/o having to $$$ custom dies; or custom reamers.
Brass forming is easily accomplished using a stock 6.5X55 Swedish FL die ( Lee )as the case forming die. The die has its internals removed, to make it open-topped.

I use Norma brass, but there is also RWS, Hornady, and Speer brass offered.

While Deep 6 is easy to form/load, wildcat brass forming ain't for everybody; esp those who need to have a high-quantity of cases on-hand. I myself enjoy the whole exercise, and ultimately ... the use of a well-designed/good performing wildcat.

I love my 6x284, Savage dual port with PacNor 1-8 27" barrel, however I do neck turn...

Shoot 117 DTACS @ 3240 with 56.5 gr of Ram Mag....it has been pushed to 58 + but the accuracy is great in extreme temp ranges with that mix

Good luck on your build
