6MM XC

All we read about with this caliber are the following bullet weights 105,107 and 115,how does it do
with the 87 vmax pills, twist rate and barrel length would help.We get 8,10 and 12 twists with ease.

I would like a super accurate rig out to 800 yrds,I have a barnard model p action.

Regards
Robert.

PS we have a hard time getting the berger 105 and 115's in South Africa.

Robert,
I have a 1:14 twist 6XC that shoots the 65 grain v-max bullets in a ragged hole and I think I have shot 75 grain bullets well in it but I suppose that would be about it, maybe up to 80 grainer would work in it, a 1:12 in my sons savage 6br soots the 87 grainer really well, hope this helps some.
Wayne.

You didn't say if the Hornady 105 AMax is hard to get in S Africa. That is the only bullet I have ever shot in my two 6XCs with 8 twists.

Yes,we have a hard time getting the so called match bullets,I have a super accurate 7mm wsm shooting 180 gr vld hunting bullets
so I want to have a 6mm super accurate rig with the lighter bullets.

what about the Lapua Scenar 115L bullet?

You mean Lapua's 105L, right? Their previous 105 Scenar is my "back-up" choice.

Berger's and D. Tubb's DTAC are the only 115's I know of at present.

I have a pair of the 6xc's. One is a 9 twist that I shoot in competition with, and one is a 10 twist that is a sporter weight barrel that I use for woodchucks, coyotes, etc. Either of them shoot the 87gr Vmax or especially the 85gr Sierra HPBT very well. Both have Kreiger 28 inch barrels.

It is a great round in general. I am impressed with the brass life using the Norma 6xc brass too. MUCH better than any of the 243's that I have and have owned over the years.

With the 10 twist I normally shoot either 75gr Vmax or 70gr Nosler ballistic tips and it will shoot as well as I can shoot it. No problems feeding from the Rem 700 magazine either.

I have a partner that has one in 12 twist with a barrel length of 26 inches and uses bullets 70grains and under and it too is exceptionally accurate. WD

has anyone shot these bullets I see 6mm 100gr @ a .560 bc?
90gr @ a .510 bc?

it's not enough to have good BC, those bullets are solid an their match bullets have weight deviation of .4gr... quite a bit to much for any match....

Besides the sales hype, be advised that some range facilities do not permit 'monolithic' (i.e. machined or 'solid' metal) projectiles owing to the way they behave once they've hit something.

Some types have been reported to travel well beyond safety zones after bouncing off impact berms.

Hi Rob,

I'm a fellow S African and I shoot 2 6XC rifles. My 1:10 tube gun takes 87 gr VLD or V Max using 42.0gr S365, and my 1:9 AICS uses the 95gr Bergers or Sierras using 41.5gr S365. Have not tried anything heavier. 95gr is a good bullet in the 6XC, but we don't have the powders to do it justice. My best velocity is 3080fps in a 24" barrel. Gonna need a 1:8 to shoot the heavies.

Are you using Norma brass? I am using Lapua 22-250 with good results. Also Win and RP.

The Barnard came from Armtech?

Any ? Pmillan346@gmail.com.

Just got my hands on 100 Norma cases, going for a 28" barrel as soon as they arrive ,have a good broughton 5c on my 7mm wsm.

Have not decided on the pills to feed her yet.

Regards
Robert

I have a 6xc and have it found shoots well (under a half inch or so at 100 yards) most any bullet I feed it, some better than others, depending upon what I have, what I could find locally etc.

I have 3, in my 1-10 twist I shoot 70gr Blitz kings at 3350 with varget, has been a great coyote round but the barrel is going south so time for a new one.
