6mm X 47mm Lapua VS 6mm 22-250 & 6XC ???

I'm considering building a Wildcat & I see the 6xc can be made using a variety of Brass. Which one is the easiest for a Beginner and the Least expensive?? I want to keep my OAL below 2.69". What is the Bolt Thrust in PSI for these Cartridges?

I don't think there's a bad choice in the three you listed. I don't have much experience with the 6x47, but the 6-250 and especially the 6xc are very easy to load for and get good to excellent accuracy. JME. WD

I have both a 6x47 (105's at 3175) and a new 6BRAI with (105 TBD) and 6BR (105 @2820)

I have 20 rounds down the 6BR-AI and I am VERY impressed, and I will up date the other thread as time allows.

6x47 using 40gr H4350 @3175 fps
6BRAI will end up close to 32gr of Varget @ 3025fps Dasher speeds with less powder and easy to form brass.

Clearly the 6x47 will not last as long as a 6BRAI... but it is fun to shoot.
6x47 is a bit harder to tune.
Many people have commented.. "With a 6mmBR if it don't shoot 30gr Varget over 450 primers with 105 Hybrid throw the barrel away and try again."

@tom is seeing great results with 6BR AI ... I'm trying to get close to that someday.

I have a question????? Which of these cartridges is a wildcat????? Just wondering. Oh, I would go with the 6XC.

If you are dead set on fireforming the brass then I would go with the 6mm-250 (or the 240NMC) because you are not deviating much from the parent case. Basically just stuffing a 6mm bullet into a 22-250 case.

I have used a 6XC for many years now and am on my 4th barrel. It is a great cartridge and easy to load for. Before the Norma brass became available I fire formed with Norma 22-250 and had about 10-15% of the cases splitting in the neck/shoulder junction. Consequently, fire formed brass life is probably better with a cartridge that is closer in shape to the parent case such as the 6-250 or 6x47.

I did not care for the way that the 6XC had so much brass moving around in the shoulder during fireforming. I have seen great accuracy from other cartridges while fireforming (243AI for example) but would not fireform 6XC in a match because a simple visual inspection will show you that the cases are not very uniform in their dimensions prior to the first firing. In other words, the first firing with a 6XC probably does not have the same accuracy potential as a case like the 6mm-250 or 6-47.

Hope this helps.

You can buy Norma XC brass.

Thank you, I now use the Norma 6XC brass also. The OP left me with the impression that he wanted to make/fire form the brass. I think the 6XC is the easiest of the 3 cartridges to step into if one is going to use the Norma 6XC brass.

If fire-forming is preferred then I think the 6mm-250 is the path of least resistance.

The 6x47 is a simple neck down. The brass is Lapua and the best. Another one to think about is the 6.5x47 Lapua. They seem to be really accurate and just set some records in 1000 yard BR. The 6xc and 6mm 22--250 are really close to the same thing. Matt

I love my 6x47L neck down new brass and go. Mine has been easy to tune, I'm about to try boron nitrate coating the bullets. The 6XC was my second choice, but at the time there was no commercial brass at the time.
