6MM GRINCH Defeats entire Field of 6PPCs

Keep us posted on it. I had those same thoughts a few years ago and went to a brdx. I saw it as touchy and actually went back to dashers.

Tom

It is very soft in the fact, that a .1 either way it still shoots small, and seating depth is not as critical. Shoots good jumped a little, very easy to make, this the part i like, dies are cut of Dasher sizer and a chamber reamer seater and you are good to go....... jim

.1 EITHER way sounds appealing. most dasher loads I've settled on MIGHT be .1 total !

Jim, what's the velocity "about" on the br improve ?

Tom
Hi Tom
I get 2970-3005 with 31.5-31.8 of RE15, I can get similar velocity with Varget (2208) but it's a little hard the cases.
I agree with Jim the best part or the Brackley is how easy it is to make GOOD cases, this was my big reason to move away from the Dasher, it was just to hard to make GOOD cases, easy to blow cases out to right shape but I struggled to control where the case got blown out from, the shoulder (where we want it to come from) or a combination of shoulder and the web area (BAD !!).

I'd say winning a short range match is new and it won't be long until it's winning 600 yards matches. What I like about it, is it just doesn't throw shots like a Dasher.

Bart

Do you know or have an idea why it doesn't "throw shots like a Dasher?"

If not, if you could state what characteristics of the Grinch are different than the Dasher it would be much appreciated.

I do not doubt what you say. I am always interested in knowing what characteristics of a cartridge contribute to accuracy and consistency.

To perform as it did against a 6 PPC which has millions of rounds of accumulated experience is a significant feat.

Tom, I'm using a 24" old set back Dasher barrel and it was at 2900 with an ES of 4 with RL-15 I did run it to 33.0 of RL-15 and no issues .... jim

I'm finding the accuracy node to be between 2920-2960 fps just depending on the barrel. You start pushing it up there at Dasher velocities and you'll see the extractor groove grow to the point it'll no longer go into your shell holders.

David Dorris owner of Benchsource has more history with this case than anyone I know of. He said the tune with 105`s was 2920 fps. I know Sam Hall had luck and he had speeds up there with Dasher, but since has settled on this velocity, from reading recent posts. I have a brand new blank, a .236 Bartlein 4G 8.3 twist I am looking forward to breaking in, and playing with some hoarded original Spencer 103`s.

That's interesting, 2920 is right where my BRX shoots with 107 SMK's. Sounds like a popular node.

I think the 8+ twist is a little slow for the Spencers. 7.75 would do better........ jim

I only shoot 600 yd events, and believe it or not, a 8.5 twist and 105 VLD`s worked very well for me at a Nationals in St Louis. The weather was on the cool side as well. The 30 shot 1.677" agg was also shot with 8.3 twist Bartlein, 105 VLD 600 yds. I have fired very few 103`s in my life, you may well be right, I just ain`t skeered of the 8.3 from my experience.

I never had them shoot great in a 8 twist, OK maybe if that is what your looking for. 7.83 or 7.75 seems to do a lot better. I would guess 8.3 may work but i would sooner be on the fast side they seem to shoot better. I sure fired thousands of them at 1000 and i did ok........ jim

First you need to pass on over to me those hoarded Spencer's you have been sitting on for so long.....
Now back to the original story
Lol......they are old, one lot is 640. Last time I shot those was Piedmont 2009 if not mistaken.

There were 82 shooters at that years nats and my Lt gun agg was better than 81 of them. 8.5 twist does OK too.

I can only say what worked best at 1000, never shot much mid range. I see where you are going with this ........ jim

Thanks Alex, sounds like Vapor Trails will shoot extremely well in the right hands with an 8 twist all the way to 1000.

Ya, have not seen any tendency for vertical which is what Id be looking for at 1k it we were boarder line with the twist. We are at elevation here, but I believe Tom shoat a 1.8" the day before the Nats, so looks like it works in that humid air and low elev.
