Grinch-fest at Bart's

with the Grinch and the BR cases having very near identical capacity why would one have an advantage over the other,,both using Lapua brass I assume??

Big,

Advantages with the Grinch are you can use the Grendel cases with a ppc bolt face.

Even though the case capacities are close to the same the Grinch produces more velocity.

Just my experience, but so far my Grinch barrels have out shot my Dasher and BR barrels.

it may not be exact but it sounds like the Grinch is very close to the 6 Fat Rat or the 6mm AR Turbo,,

6.5 Grendel necked to 6mm shoulder blown forward to 40*

http://www.6mmar.com/6mmAR_Turbo_40_Improved.php

the Fat Rat shoots the 107 SMK at 2700 fps loaded at mag length at less than .5 MOA from an AR15,,

should be way yonder better in a tuned bolt rifle,,

since I am tooled up for the 6BR I am gonna try the 13.5 twist zero freebore BR chamber before spending more money on new brass and tooling,,I would be happy with a load that will shoot in the low 2`s and not have to chase a tune all day,,hopefully the BR nodes will be wider than the PPC and it will stay in tune to well enough to hit the dot on the UBR target all day without having to change loads,,I dont shoot groups just need to hit the dot all day,,

but my Farley action will handle the BR and PPC cases,,

The Fat Rat is close but not the same. At the nationals I ran the Grinch at 2930 shooting 103gr bullets.

I think you'll find you have to tune on the BR just like you do a PPC if you want to be competitive.

A 8 target agg of 3.4" at 1000-yards would be highly desired and impressive, let alone from 36 targets fired 30 some different days over 2 years time, like Tom's 6Dasher petload. That is a load staying in tune extremely well in my view.

That's the good thing about tuning your stuff at the range you shoot you can kind of see what is most consistent.

Donovan,

Oh I'm not taking anything away from Mighty Mousel's shooting. He is as impressive as a 1000 yard shooter as there is! I have a lot of respect for the "Mouse!" His pet load works very well.

But let's take a look at 2016 stats at Deep Creek. Toms pet load was able to get him in the shoot off for 3 out of 8 LG matches. That's really Good. Also the groups that he shot for those particular matches when he won were very very small.

9 July 2.998
10 July 2.911
11 June 2.546

That's a perfectly tuned rifle! But let's look at the groups from the Shoot Offs. In each case the group is significantly bigger.

9 July 4.587 (won)
10 July 4.814 (lost)
11 June 6.213 (lost)

So, was it always because of conditions or could it have been load?

@BartsBullets -
Tom doesn't use his "hot gun" in Shoot-off's.
He tests/plays in shoot-offs.
Donovan
I can testify to that, many of us at deep creek use shoot offs to test & tune other rifles in our ranks that may not quite be worthy of a main relays yet. I fear the day when Tom quits baby sitting 4 guns at a time and focuses on two rifles. A note on toms aggs he and that rifle pulled that off with two of the worst seasons we have had condition wise at deep creek in a long time. Happy tuning boys.....

Do to the fact we are so far away from other ranges, nobody here has much chance for soy points. So most guys just worry about the yearly agg. and/or individual targets and dont care so much about the shootoffs. Theres at least 5-6 guys that fight it out every match. Nobody dominates at Deep Creek.
