6MM GRINCH Defeats entire Field of 6PPCs

I`d like to compare prints 6AR T 40 with Grinch. That would be interesting as Whitley actually has dies on hand with no wait for custom.

I shoot both a 6fat rat and a 6ar turbo 40. They are virtually identical. I have a set of Redding dies from Whitley, and also from Widden. He makes them for the fat rat...Lee Wells(accurate and reliable rifle). I have compared the finished product... except for a couple thou difference in chamber length between my two barrels, they appear interchangeable.

Even in an AR shooting out of a mag, they are amazingly accurate. We shoot steel out to 850 very consistently. On a good day we get cocky and start calling head shots on the coyotes. Our favorite load is CFE223 behind a 108berger, running 2860ish out of a 26" barrel. It the easiest on brass for us.

As accurate as ours shoot, it would be a pleasure to try one in a quality bolt gun with quality bullets, you all are using. Good luck with your project!

I'd say winning a short range match is new and it won't be long until it's winning 600 yards matches. What I like about it, is it just doesn't throw shots like a Dasher.

Bart

I'm going out on a limb here a bit with no experience with the Grinch, but I'm thinking that the person shooting it, and if you're using your 103's may well be a considerable portion of why you're not seeing any flyers. After just using around 40 of em, I haven't seen the first flyer either. And at my lower skill level, that is a very welcome happening.:):D WD

I never had flyers with a Dasher, never..... I sort bullets and weed out the the out of speck ones. I don't care whose bullets they are or were, you find bad ones. If you want to shoot small you had better learn what it takes at long range to win. Eliminate the variables ...... jim

Jim,

I knew my Dasher comment would step on a few toes. There are guys that absolutely have the Dasher humming. It is an extremely accurate cartridge. But it's finicky compared to the 6BRs and others.
That's not just my opinion but that of several top shooters in the 600 yard competition. At 600 yards there a disproportionate amount of 6BRs and 6BR variants shooting and winning compared to the amount of dashers on the line.

Never had a flyer with your Dasher. That's a pretty bold statement. Bring your Dasher to my house and let's shoot it. If you can shoot an agg at 100 and 200 yards without a flyer I'll send you home with all the bullets you have on order for free. Besides I'd enjoy the visit!

Bart,

I now own a couple of Jim's Dashers so that means he cannot commit to your challenge.... but guess what? I can and would love to learn a thing or two. AND I would love to try and win those bullets for Jim.....I promise I would forward them to him. ;):D:):D

I did have one at a 1000 and it cost me a record i had 4 in an inch and one off the paper due to a fold that let go in shoulder area on the Lapua brass. I learned to check the brass with a bore scope....... Not to many flyers in a 4 target ago. 2.83 @ 1000 yds.
Bart, that would be great but i sold everything but the short range Leonard gun, but it sure does good with the PPC and your 68's Now the 6br imp. sure is an eye opener just can't wait till i can run some of those 80's out of the 12 twist....... jim

I agree the dasher can be finicky. Very narrow tune windows in my experience to keep them shooting really small. I dont know that fliers have really been a big issue though.?

So even you got rid of your dashers! Sorry Jim couldn't resist.

Dashers are easy to make shoot good. They're a finicky booger to make shoot great though.

Do you think it's a under bore ratio you're seeing Bart? Possibly better parent brass? Maybe easier to form better wildcat cases? This I could see, since you've got your built in 6.5 false shoulder. What are your thoughts?

Tom

Tom, maybe that is why i never had trouble, is being annal making brass that blows out to 1.550-3 or it goes in the can..... i shot the same load all year almost ......... jim

Tom,

For I think the Dasher is probably a little over bore. That's my guess. It's a killer cartridge no doubt. I think it would be more efficient if it was shortened .025
To .050. Lots of 600 yard guys have switched to from the dasher to a 6BR or some variation there of. For 1000 yards I'd say the dasher is fine because you need the extra velocity.

As far as the 6.5 case goes I think the narrower powder colum helps. It's pretty much a PPC on steroids. It's not the end all be all but it is proving to be a capable cartridge from 100 out to 600 yards.
