6mm Creedmoor vs. 6x47L.

I know this has been brought up before but I can't find it! Any thoughts?..manly yotes, PD (way out there ) and ringing steel.

I will throw out a vote for the 243SLR. Very accurate, easy to form the case, fire form load shoots as well as the formed case. The big plus over the other two that I really like is that you can use the slow burning powders, which burn cooler, for better barrel life. My barrel has over 3200rds on it with one set back. What's not to like??

Flip a coin. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Erik is correct IF you are stuck on one of the 2.. However, if you want extreme 6mm performance for "way out there" varmints, try a 6mm-284. I myself have never used one, however, my 'smith uses one extensively and what he has told me is awesome. It is the most accurate of the "larger" 6mm cartridges (according to him) and it hammers hogs / javalina out as far as you can hit them. And with 105gr hunting VLD's at 3450 you can hit them WAY out there!

... And the barrel life is about half a dozen rounds :o. Just kidding, but Im sure it will be much shorter that the XC, creed, or SLR. Im leaning toward the creedmoore for my second barrel on what will become my switch barrel. Right in the middle as far as case capacity, proven performance (by tactical precision/ PRS shooter), and you can still use pretty slow powder to help with barrel life. My second choice would be SLR. I looked at the XC but brass is way too hard to get and the other two are easier to form if you have to go that route.

I'm leaning towards the SLR since I have the brass, and my wife is building a 6.5 Creedmoor and I might the SLR so now I will need reamers..... ::)

biggest drawback on the creedmores in general is I havent seen quality brass, usually one hornady brass around me... 6x47 you can get good brass for, 6XC nosler makes brass for and you can use lapua 22-250 brass to make the cases easy enough. no info on the 6SLR for me.

If I chose between the 6X47 and 6 creed id pick the 6X47. Just my opinions here. For my 6mm build I am rebarreling into a 6XC

I'll start by saying they are all good...but if I had to choose I would go 6slr, 6 creed, 6x47.

I bought a tactical gun to start shooting those games this next season. I bought a 6slr and I couldn't find a seater (wilson) I liked and was going to pull the barrel and put a 6.5 creedmoor on it. Preacher here convinced me to give the 6slr a shot he thought I would be pleasantly surprised. That was an understatement. The thing is the easiest tuning rifle I've ever shot and it hammers. I know the other two will shoot with (the best would depend on the barrel, they are that close) the 6slr but the ease of developing a load was amazing.

I shoot 6brx & dashers in my benchrest stuff and this 6slr will shoot dang close to that accurate off a bipod. I've thought about buying a bench stock to just see how well it will shoot.

No fireforming, just size, load and shoot....there is a little more brass prep because your not dealing with Lapua brass but I will be hard pressed to not always have a 6slr in the stable now. It's an awesome little round.

Go with an 8 twist...you can shoot the 105's and the 87. Good luck...I really don't think you have a wrong decision to make here.

I only have limited experience with 6x47L and am very pleased with it. The Lapua brass is excellent and lasts a long time. The barrel on mine is a Broughton with a 1:8 twist and I have shot the 87 V-Max out to 340 yards and the 105 A-max out to 1300 yards on steel. No accuracy or chrono results yet but the V-Max is moving, hoping to get some hits on prairie dogs this summer.

Nuff said!! ;D..I don't know this " preacher" but I was reading a article on the SLR over at the main site and he was mentioned and I thought " hey this guy must be pretty popular. .lol" well with what you have said I think the SLR will be on my parts list.. (as soon as my wife is done building her 6.5 creedmoor)....what barrle length would I go with to get the 105's and 108's at 3000 fps?

Mine is 22" and I'm running just over 3k with 4831sc. Guy I bought it from said he was running right over 3100 with Hybrid 100.

It shoots so good with 4831sc that I'll probably never try anything else. I found some and stocked up enough that will last this barrel.

Congrats...also, Whidden Gunworks makes a great die that I'm very pleased with.

You know that a picture is worth a thousand words. You can add the .243 variants (6 Comp Match and .243 Win Improved 30 degree).

Looks like the 6mm Creedmor must have the primer seated above flush because it's leaning to the right drastically.

Son had a 6-250 and it shot well but he had problems with stiff extraction. He had it built for Hi power shooting so in the rapid fire phase that was a problem for him. He rechambered to the SLR and loves it.

First let me say that I have been shooting the 6.5x47 in Tac comps for 5 yrs now. I absolutely love it. Every barrel I have ever chambered (at least 10) in 6.5x47 is super easy to tune and I can always count on this cartridge.

Well, about 3-4 yrs ago I decided to try the 6x47 and I have had the opposite experience. I have chambered 4 or 5 barrels(brux, bartlein, bench mark, kreiger) and gone through 3-4k of 105hyb trying to figure out why I cant get this cartridge to shoot. Ive tried new dies, neck tension, primers, powders, etc. I did have one that shot phenomenal when it was new, but once the barrel sped up I could never find the node again.

Anyhow, I decided to try a 6 creedmoor recently and it might be as forgiving as a 308 with 175smk's. It is every bit as forgiving as any of my 6.5x47's have been and it actually produces impressive ES's which surprised considering the brass is not all that consistent(i didnt sort it at all). I am very impressed so far. It could just be one of those lucky barrels, but quite few guys I shoot against are running this cartridge and having the same results.

I havent totally given up on the 6x47 yet either,I'm a little stubborn. I have a couple things I'm trying with the barrels I already have chambered.

Thats my experience.
