6MM Creed" Boolits for deer

Took my 6 CM out of a chassis and put it into a hunting stock. In the old days I killed a lot of deer with a .243 so I thought I would give it a go with the 6 CM. Mine is a Howa 1500 26" barrel with a 7.5 twist. Looking at Nosler (max 100 grain for their "hunting" bullets) and Berger has the VLD line of hunting bullets. Then you have the Sierra Gameking and Hornady ELD-X. Thought I would ask if anyone handloaded for this caliber for hunting and what bullet they prefer.

Its only a deer, any big game bullet should be just fine. Pick a heavier one.

I found the berger 108 shot very well in mine with little load work up. I ended up settling on hornady 108 eldm due to cheeper and i had planned to shoot the rifle more often. Now i just shoot it once a year on javelina. I have not taken any deer with it but man that bullet drops javelina hard.

108gr ELDM, if you want to stay below 100gr Id go with 95gr Ballistic Tips if you can find them

Are you shooting long range or more short to medium? At anything under 400, all of the modern soft points will work fine. The Bergers shine at longer distances, 95-108 gr, whatever shoots the best.

What bullet did you use in your 243 when hunting deer ? If it did the job well, then try the same one in your 6CM.

105 Berger Hybrids have worked excellent for me as a deer hunting bullet in my 6XC. I have killed deer out past 700 yards with it. Outstanding terminal performance and 9 times out of 10 they drop where they stand. I have had one deer make it about 30 yards.

Based on a lot of experience, the 95 Gr Berger VLD is hard to beat. Lots of good bullets out there. But very few shine like the 95 GR VLD................

Some of the listed bullets I have never tried. Mainly loading for 243, 260 and 6.5 CM and 6.5X47 for kids shooting deer. By far the best performance of any bullet I have ever loaded for deer has been Barnes TTSX or TSX. It is devastating!

Thanks for all of the replies. I have a few powders to try and the heavier bullets (108?) sound interesting. I always shot deer for work with a .243 using 100 grain factory (power point?). We had to take neck/head shots in order to collect as much data as possible.

All I use for deer, antelope out here, never needed a 2nd shot with those bullets.

Here in the South, my family has killed a LOT of deer and hogs with the 100g Hornady btsp, not a boutique bullet, but it just works. One cousin shoots nothing but a Hornady 95g SST in his 243 Axis.

You know that shot placement is key, and shoot them through the shoulders if you do not want Runners.

I would get the new 80gr Tipped Hammer Hunter and be done with it. HHs are crazy accurate.

This 80gr TTSX (243Win @ 3400fps) took my last blacktail buck at 300 yards, quartering away, bullet penetrated the near side lung, severed the spine, and lodged just under the skin on the far side neck. Dead instantly. Picture perfect.
