6mm br shorten to 6mm ppc capacity

Just wondering if it has been tried, to reduce the length of the 6br to same case capacity as the 6ppc. To load 30.? plus grains of V-133 in case for group shooting competition.

I have to believe someone out there has tried it. And what was the outcome. Or is it super secret stuff,
With the cost of ppc brass getting high. And 6br brass staying at fair value.

Curious minds want to know.

There’s at least one guy that shoots local to me who is using a 6BR shortened 0.100”. He said he’s been shooting it for years, and he does very well. I like the idea of the cartridge, but I’m personally not a fan of moving shoulders back on the parent case.

When lapua started making 220 Russian brass it pretty much ended this. People were selling shot to death 220 russian brass for a dollar a piece in the 90s. That was the impetus for the talldog at least that was the story back then. Red Cornelius the originator of this, best i remember.

I have 2 rifles in 6 Tall Dog and I can attest to their accuracy potential. Both are built on Hart #4 actions and are old school bench guns with one weighing in at 18 pounds and the other at 22 pounds so recoil is practically nonexistent. While I am not going to win the Super Shoot with either one both are very capable of shooting fairly consistent groups in the mid 2's. I probably only have about $1200 in each rifle so I consider that alot of accuracy for the money spent. Forgot to say both rifles are wearing Lyman 25X LWBR scopes to stay with the vintage look.

Sounds like nice guns.

I just built a tall dog, my version has 40* shoulders.
I have fireformed 20 pcs of brass and intend to work up a load soon.

If you look at the results from this year’s Cactus, Dan Sutton was shooting a short br.

It’s a neat little round. I talked to a half dozen fellas that have been in the game a while. All said they shot or knew folks that shot talldog s back in the brass shortage years. All said they will hang with a PPC no problem. But making PPC brass was so much easier
that they went the easy way.

After I ponder the above cases for a bit, I started the above thread.

Can the old 222 be made into something close to a 6PPC or 6BR?
