6mm BR and H4350???

Well, just got back from the range.

I will say using H4350 gave me the same if not better groups than Varget (I am really please about this)

The only issue I have was my Lab radar did not record any of the 27 test rounds. So I have no velocity to record with the groups.

Found my best groups (3 shots) were 29.0, 29.8 and 30.0 gr's.

I think these are in the node of the barrel. Just gotta figure out the issue with my lab radar (I think I had the wrong trigger mode set It worked just fine last week).

O well back to the range latter this week.

Thanks for you advise...

Larry,
No experience with H4350 in a 6BR but I also experienced a Lab Radar which wouldn't trigger all of a sudden. No matter what setting i put it on. It is like it went deaf. I put a recoil trigger on it and it is now very reliable. YMMV.

You absolutely don't need a 12 inch drop tube to shoot H4350 in 6br.

However, this is my loading funnel with drop tube and I love it.

With this funnel I could shoot 30 grains of much chunkier R16 EASILY. In 6bra I was getting 33 grains.
I have some really long tubes with a funneled end cap leftover from my Dad's reloading stuff
Thought they were bore guides but didnt fit the profile exactly
Now that you show this, I am wondering if they were long drop tubes
I'll have to take a look at them again,
I never used more than a 4 inch drop tube myself

Where did you get a recoil trigger??

Was looking in the user manual but didn't see the option.

I kinda remember seeing another shooter using one.

I found a wiring diagram for a vibration trigger switch. Looks like it would cost me about $.90 to build one (got lots of electronic components on hand).

Did you make yours?

I bought a Piet trigger but I can't find information on them now. I belive this is very similar.

Garmin will be your new friend…
See what ever you can get for your LR and move on…
What’s not to like in a device the size of a GoPro, has amazing battery life and NEVER misses a shot… I carry it in a small pouch that clips to my belt loop so I can take it to the mound as I set up the rest of my gear and have it protected if I just toss it in a box with the rest and rear bag and ammo box…

Ok, went to the 600 yd range this morning. Got my Lab radar working and got some velocity readings. A little disappointing on my FPS but I think I need to find a higher node for my best results at 1000 yds.

With 29.0 gr of H4350 and a 108 Berger I was getting 2431 (avg) and 30.0 grs was 2508 FPS.

With 30 grs of Varget I was 2850 FPS.

When running these numbers in a ballistic calculator it gave me 1187 FPS and 1225 FPS at 1000 yds.

Our shotmarker targets need at lease 1250FPS at the target to register on the target.

These readings maybe to slow.

My next step is to find the next higher node of the barrel by increasing the amount of powder.

Anyone know what the max gr's for H4350 are before a compressed load for 6mm BA Norma?

I did test up to 30.4 grs, but think I should go to 31.0 to see if I get the next node.

Any suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

There is your answer….
2’850 is a known sweet spot for the 6BR.
Varget is a known powder that delivers in a 6BR.

Again all depends on your lot and your Alpha & Peterson brass. I've got no data for it. With 103s

30.7 in Norma brass was 2850
32.2 in a different lot was 2850
31.9 in yet a different lot was 2850

In Lapua a lot was 31.9 to hit 2850

You're just going to have to start working up to it.
There's a great node around 2730+50 also

Thanks, Yeah breaking in a new caliber is always fun and a challenge.

I'm going to kick it up a notch and find another node.

Before I started shooting 1000 yds with electronic targets I would have not cared about being 1250 FPS at 1000 yds.. Before I got on a 1000 yd range I would pick my lowest FPS with the best group to save ware on my barrels.

I push my 6.5 and 6 creeds at 2890 and 3025 FPS and over the past 7 years I,m on 3 barrels each, but the accuracy I get at 1000 yds to me is worth it.

Times do change.....

I do agree with you along with the others that shoot Varget. However with Varget being $65.00 a pound and I have 24 lb's of H4350 under my bench (that I bought at around $40.00 a pound) I thought I would try it and save some $$$ over the years.

Full cases are happy cases, I get my best SDs when cases are 98% full to compressed.
This is what I have always heard from those who use H4350 in BR class cases. They claim the more You can get in, the better the accuracy. They claim You can’t get enough in a BR class case to cause dangerous pressures ????. If anyone is winning match’s using H4350 in BR class cases, they are keeping it to themselves. I have always been advised by most shooters it is the wrong powder for this application (competition). I, like the Op, have a large stock of H4350 that I got when powder was in short supply. It won’t be wasted, I have several chamberings it is suitable for. Due to the expense associated with shooting a Match, I have not felt like experimenting. And I don’t get much opportunity to Test. My interest here, like the OP and other posters, is to gain knowledge of the subject. I AM NOT SUGGESTING ANYONE ACT ON THE INFORMATION I HAVE GLEANED FROM OTHERS ON THIS SUBJECT !!! Just would like to hear from those who have used H4350 in BR class cases in competition. THANKS

I agree that you can't hardly hit pressure. I suppose you could with a long enough drop tube. Depends on the bullet of course. I did not find out that the more you put in it the better it shot. There were certainly a node that seems to live around 30 grains with a 108. Same with the 22 BR with a 90 grain.

In a sized 6BR Lapua Case, I got 32.68 grains of H4350 in using a slow dump down a metal funnel. Loaded a 105 Hyb touching the lands. No crunch was detected. Dawned My Welding Gear just in case and fired the round. No pressure signs were detected. The primer edges were round, no bleed back into the firing pin hole, and no heavy bolt lift. I was comfortable doing this because several respected shooters got more H4350 in, and even crunched it, with no adverse effects. What’s left is to load some up, go to the range, and let the target tell the story. spudgun, please keep Us informed of Your progress with this powder. More fps at 1,000yds also helps cheat the wind.

I have had really good success with H4350 in 6BR. My original load was with varget years back and when that became hard to find, I switched to IMR 4320. I decided to give some a try with 105 hybrids and with a somewhat compressed load, I am getting great velocity and accuracy. I think with my .236 bore and jammed .015 ITL it helps to build up some pressure
