6mm Ai or 6.5 Creed

Just ordered kreiger in 6.5 Creedmore with 1-8 5br barrel to replace the 6MM Ai I have on my rem700 with throat erosion but am have second thoughts about not staying with the Ackley the case carries more water and I think with a fast enough twist I can send a 105 out at 3200 plus

Not an apples to apples comparison. The 6.5CM is riding the wave right now but there is a performance difference between the two.

What's the application? It depends on what your going to do with it. For fast shooting like some discipline's the 6.5 Creed will heat up a lot slower, for live varmints or just having fun the 6 Rem Ack might be better suited. Just depends. Tell us more.

R#26 with a fed 215 wil put the 6 AC in the 3400 are at leas.

6 AC is best on a long action, then a 6.5x47L gives more mag length than the creed, something to think about.

You can reach your goal of 3,200 fps. with the 6mm Creedmoor if you want to. Barrel length and powder choice will help to achieve the velocity. There are lots of folks who shoot the 6mmBR, BRX and Dasher to 1,000 yards so the Creedmoor will get there as well.

The 6mm AI will accomplish this in spades by comparison. It can and has run numbers in the 3,300+ level given hotter powders and longer barrels. The difference is that you can choose to use the slower, cooler burning powders (lower pressure), thereby extending your barrel life while still getting to the 3,200 fps.

Unless you have a supply of 6mm Remington, your choices of brass are narrowed by the manufacturers. Currently, Prvi Partizan and Hornaday make 6mm Rem. brass. But higher quality brass can be made from RWS 7 x 57 Mauser brass. There might even be some 6.5 x 57 brass available but you'll have to check places like Huntington's. If you seriously want to pursue accuracy, find your brass source first, prep it then order your reamer but be sure to secure a decent supply first. I buy RWS by the case but I use it for making several cartridges. I also buy the Winchester and Remington when they deign to make some for public distribution.

Regards.

If your going to shoot a 6.5 Creedmoore. You must 1. Stock up on camo underwear, has to be worn when you shoot a creedmoore. 2. Learn to holler 2 tenths right and impact at the top of your lungs. 3. Reorganize your vocabulary so that you can put half moa all day long in every sentence.

I would like to work my way out to 1000 yds, all of my shooting is steel and targets

Either will do that. You ordered a 6.5 barrel so seems like you made your mind up already. Keep your barrel longer and use the 140 or 147 ELD and the 6.5 Creedmoor does very well at 1000+.

How far did you shoot your 6mmAI?

longest was shooting rocks across the canyons in Idaho 936yd

64 more yards isn't that big of a jump. LOL Either will do it. But like I said if you go Creedmoor then keep the barrel 26-28" and you will be able to send those bullets out to 1000+ very easily.
