6mm 8t what chamber to cut

I'm looking for advice on what chamber to machine in a new barrel SS 1-8 29in long ? best barrel life, highest vel, case efficiency etc. Used for varmint, target shooting, easy case and die available. I'm thing of 6mm rem, 6mm rem ack, 6mm WSW.
I have a savage single shot target 12vss action.
I don't think a 6br case will get a 105gr over 3000 vel.I want to shoot prairie dogs at over 500yrds.

Hello, If your looking to get the 105 grain bullets over 3000fps. and want good barrel life, case efficiency and great accuracy why not the 6 Dasher. If you don't mind doing the fireforming thing, which you can do on live targets anyhow. It will push the heavy 6mm bullets around 3050 fps. And do it with around 33 grains of powder, which in turn gives less barrel heat than most of the other hotrods listed.

I am building a 6 dasher for varmints, f-class and benchrest. I'm going with the 1-8" Broughton, have everything but the stock. Dies can be bought through Foresters or Redding.

I'm new to this sight, what brass is the 6 dasher made from? What powder does it like ?
AND MORE QUES IONS??? Any grate advantages to long neck and sharp sh older cases, I've herd of cooler barrels, less throat wear, less velocity variation and more afferent, any thing on the negative side?

The 6 Dasher is based on the 6BR. Don't have mine yet but read lots about it. I have read that Reloader 15, varget h-4895 are all pretty good powders. The 40 degree shoulders, just like the ackley improved cartridges, give you the best brass stability, reduces case stretching. At the same time gives you a tad more case capacity, for more powder of course. I understand this cartridge really reduces your extreme spread velocites, too. I'm real excited about this project, I've been planning for more than a year. To add to my excitment, the last 600 yard record was broken with this cartridge shooting the Amax bullets.

The only negative side I have really heard people complain about is the wind drift of the 6mm bullets at long range. I am willing to give up alot of that speed, for the added accuracy this cartridge. I believe on the home page there is a section to the left of the page called 6br improved, if your interested in the dasher. Good luck, whatever you choose.

My wife now has a Speedy Gonzales 6mmBR that she shoots at 600 and 1000 yards. The wind drift is about 75% of what it is with my 308 Palma guns so I see no downside to the wind drift issue. This is shooting at 2775 fps with 107 SMK's.

The 6-284 will give you everything you want, except barrel life. The Dasher requires fireforming but works pretty good. The 6BR natural is fun and works for a lot of target shooters, no fireforming or case work needed.
You might look at the 6XC and the 6X47 Lapua, also. They are newer offerings and have capacity a bit more than the Dasher but less than the 6-284.

Ratpatrol, since your new to this site I don't know if you have read this article written by one of the forum members. I got a kick out of it and thought you might too. Its about long range p-dog hunting. The guys are using match grade weapondry out to 1650 yards. Here's the link http://www.the-long-family.com/2007_TRO_hunting_trip.htm
