RussT, I use N165 in my 7mm short magnum. N165 is only 3,500 KJ/KG! I'm hoping for 1,500+ rounds out of a short mag.
Interesting numbers, and i will plead ignorance but where do we find this chart or information that relates to HOE/P ? Might weed out powders that would be hard ( or harder ) on throats.Rtheurer said:I believe what Donald and Steve are saying is that just because the powder is a slower burning powder... This does not make it easier on throats as most people asume... you know what they say about assumtions.
For example the HEAT OF EXPOSION/ POTENTIAL for H1000 is 3630 Kila Jouls/ KG ( HEAT)
While R25 is 3810 KJ/KG. Almost 200 KJ/KG less in H.O.E/P in the two powders yet they are real close in BURN RATE.
The biggest one in contrast I see is N560 Vs N160, that are within the same Manufacture even. N160 is a nice 3620 while the N560 High Energy powder is a wopping 4020!!!
Just because the powder of choice has a slow burn rate DOES NOT mean its easy on throats.
I hope i didnt mess this up.. If some one see's a mistake please jump in.
