Yesterday I took my new 6CM barrel out to Malvern OH for a 3X600 prone match to check some loads.
The barrel is a Satern 4 grove, 1 in 7.5, chambered in 6mmCompetitionMatch,6CM).
The 3 loads I tested/shot were:
1. 115 DTAC, 45.5 gr N165
2. 107 Sierra, 46.5 gr N165
3. 115 DTAC, 48.5 gr H1000
All bullets are non-coated.
The Chronograph results on a previous testing day for the above loads were:
200 yards, bench, Tubb Gun,round forend), aperture sights:
,Groups measured to the next largest 1/8")
1. 115 DTAC, 45.5 gr N165, AVG Vel: 3024, ES: 17, SD: 6, Group: 1/2"
2. 107 Sierra, 47.0 gr N165, AVG Vel: 3128, ES: 20, SD: 7, Group: 5/8"
3. 115 DTAC, 49.0 gr H1000, AVG Vel: 3043, ES: 21, SD: 8, Group 4 shots under 3/8",one outside making total group 7/8").
At the match the results are as follows:
Match 1: Little or no wind effects, 200-15X
Match 2: Building winds, 196-8X Lost the last 3 shots due to elevation.
Match 3: Estimated maximum winds of 10 MPH, 199-14X, Lost 1 shot at 5 and made a full sight correction to finish with 5 X’s.
This is the first Satern barrel I have had. It is the best shooting barrel I have had in 6mm. It may be the best barrel in 6mm I have ever had, but it must last over 3000 rounds to make that grade.
Given the way it cleans, easier than the Bartlein or Kreigers I have had on recently I have no reason to believe it will not last as long as those barrels.
My last two Kreigers lasted over 3500 rounds and the Bartlein I just took off was at 2700. I took off the Bartlein, not because of accuracy, won the Marine Corps Cup with a 200-14X and 3 weeks ago shot a 200-14X at 600), but it will not come clean without a lot of work.
I’m very impressed with the results I’m getting from this Satern barrel.
