6CM testing Results

Dave L Kiff said:
Don, did the prints get to you ? If not we will try again. Thanks Dave

Dave Kiff, I got the print and sent it on to teele1 and he will take care of it. teele1 is my bestest shooting buddy and fellow 6CM shooter. He has a call in to you.

Thanks,
Don Dunlap

Since you guys are doing your business publicly on the forum for everyone to see, how about you just make the whole thing public (i.e. post the reamer print, the invoice for the purchase, etc.). What the heck, why leave us all out of the party?

Robert

mbkmkk,
You can get the die from Redding or Dave Bruno. They are labled .243 Egolf Imp. Also Dave Bruno does all my 6CM gunsmithing, he is verygood, fast, and humble. He's been chambering these things since the beginning. There are others and if I had to choose a second smith it would be Chad Dixon.

Robert,

The print is available from Dave at Pacific Tool. Just call him or email him and he will send it to you. It would suck if you used that print to buy it from someone else, but that is between you and Dave.

As far as the pricing Don is paying for the reamer. While I know he is probably paying the standard price from Pacific Tool. It is none of your business.

Joe

Redding has a 16 week lead time on custom dies. I'd buy one from Dave Bruno as he usually has them in stock. It may cost a few more $ than from Redding, but you don't have to wait 16 weeks.

Attached is the drawing of the reamer used for my rifles.

Thanks Joe, I have the print of your 6CM that my rifle is chambered in, just don't know how to post it. That's why I sent the 1 that Dave sent me with the elliptical to Jim so he will post it. Dave told me he did not know how to post it either, but he sure does know how to make reamers and what-not. :D One of these days we need to get some more 6CM's on the line at Camp Perry with you.

Been following this thread for a good while and have a question for the folks who are shooting the 6CM. What can I expect, velocity wise, using 115gr Berger's or DTac's. I'm not necessarily, interested in maximum velocity but in match velocities.

buying reamer from bruno or anyone else is a privelege when your bestest barrel gives it up!they invest to stock, and hope to sell for a profit to justify sitting on the shelf till a buyer comes along!!

Race Snake
You could figure to get about 3000fps from a naked 115 DTAC using ~49gr H1000.

BTW - when did we have to go through the BS verification stuff just to post? Has it neen that long since I logged in?

Naked 115 DTAC out of my 27" was 3225 at 49 grs. of H-1000. I settled with 48.7 grs. of H-1000 3153 fps. This cut the size of my group from 6.5 " to 4.4 at 1000 yards. This was 2" + of vertical.

Hey guys....anyone have 10 pieces of formed brass I could buy so I can see if this will work in my AW mags.

It works just fine in mine. I have an AW and an AX. When you load it up to 10, the top round or two is a little stiff, but it feeds just fine.

PM me your address and I will send you some brass.

Hey Hoser,

if you are shooting next CRC or Raton match, could you bring a few fired Winchester cases.

The Shmooshie rocks!

Thanks

Thanks you Sir

I called yesterday and he was out until Tuesday. I was hoping he would do just a barrel I can put on one of my Savage actions. Any recomendations on length, twist, and brand? I was thinking 28", 7.5, and Krieger.

WOW, I see what you all have been telling me is true. Must be the heat .

Dave

I am not sure what to make of your posting.

If it means people are sitting around gossiping about others behind their back that's not a good thing. I hope that is not what it means as that is not the type of person I know you to be.

The one thing I know to be true is things are constantly evolving and changing in the shooting sports and there are two choices:

1. You can sit around and complain about it; or

2. You can get off your butt, get into the game and do something productive about it.

I have always seen you as representing #2 above. I make the postings I make, and I call them as I see them and that sometimes annoys people who have a vested interest in the status quo or those who don't want to deal with critique (even if it's true).

For example: The 6CM original chambering was never designed for Lapua brass, otherwise it would not be at .4687" at .200" forward of the bolt face when Lapua brass out of the box can run .469" - .4695" at the web. Now what needed to happen is the dimension needed to be increased for some clearance so that shooters don't get that annoying click at the top of the bolt lift when shooting stiffer loads with Lapua brass. Now I mentioned that in this thread and I see some postings that someone might be doing something to deal with that issue. So while people may not have liked my comment, hopefully it made people do a #2 (instead of a #1) and make a better product for all shooters to enjoy.

The 6CM is not a magical cartridge but it is an excellent cartridge. Some of the "puffing" that goes on about it seems a little much - but hey - people get excited and that is understandable.

Good luck to you and all of your customers!

I'm interested in the same thing - a screw-on Savage barrel in 6CM.

Doc, let us know how it works out. I've been running Lapua brass that had been neck reamed for the past two years without any adverse effects. Thanks again Joe for your diligent work in developing the 6CM the loading and maintenance procedures that make the barrel life so long.

REMEMBER THIS...

",I expect this barrel to be able to shoot winning scores up to 4000 rounds. Currently there has been no need to change seating depths and when I bore scope the barrel it looks good. The fire cracks are not extreme and the entry point a the throat is still sharp.)

I believe the 6CM and the 6XC to be equal in accuracy. The 6CM has a slight advantage due to the velocities obtained. We are shooting the 115 DTAC at 3100 fps or better with uncoated bullets.

However, the biggest benefit to the 6CM is the barrel life. The 6XC or other similarly sized cartridges,6mm-22-250) are not able to shoot the very slow burning powders necessary to obtain the extended barrel life and still give you velocities that are capable of winning in the wind. The smaller sized cartridges, it you shoot them so that you have the higher velocities, and the barrel lasts about 2000 rounds.

I have spent a lot of time in the development of this cartridge. I have talked to experts in all aspects of shooting and taken all of there advice to come up with the final product.

I believe this cartridge to be a great choice for any shooting discipline. You can shoot any 243 brass, including Lapua and Norma. You only need a sizing die as any 243 seating die works perfectly.

I am confident that anyone who chambers their rifle to 6CM will not look back at any other 6mm. It simply works and works well."

from Joe Hendricks 2006 and I'd say he is absolutely right on all accounts.

mbkmkk, Krieger 28" 7.5 twist will do. If you are more specific on what you are going to use it for you may want something else, I said may want. I have a 30" that is quite abit faster then my 27". Both are Krieger's.

Good post Jim. (teele1)

Just good old fashion Varmint shooting and Target shooting for me. Looking for longer barrel life then the .243 Win and flatter then the 6BR. Wanted the 6mmDasher and still may get a barrel because everyone says its so accurate and flatter then the 6BR. I just love 6mm rifles including the 6x45 that I am finishing a rifle in for P-Dogs at closer ranges. I will use the 6CM for long range P-Dogs rather then my 243 Win or 243WSSM.
