6BR prairie dog loads.

When the 6mm 55 Nosler bt was new I tried them in my .243. Settled on a good load right at 4000fps, spotted a prairie dog at 100 yards and was pretty sure I hit him, didn't see a body so I walked out. Turns out I did hit him but all I could find was the tiniest little pieces. If I had any worries about punching through they vaporized right then just like that pd. Not a great b.c. but boy are they fun.

If it was me before June 2026 I'd take the 75vmax and 87vmax out to test. From load development out to 600-700 yards. I won't chase my tail to long, I'd make my decision based on the performance for the bullet of choice and roll with it. It's not complicated.

with an 8T with .105 Freebore, you will give up 200 fps+ vs a 12-14T with zero-.058 Freebore. 3900 fps with a 27" 12 Twist is what you will get with a Lilja 3 Groove, Hart, Krieger. 65's are doing 3550-3650 fps and 70s are doing 3500-3550, H335, Rem 7 1/2. Benchmark, 8208, H322 are accurate but much slower.

Lobbing bullets at P. dogs does not work for me, need for speed and acrobatics. 87s in a larger case with 3300 fps gets the job done.

Wow....that's some good inf.

In several 12-14 twists with very short freebore, the 55g Nosler with H335 or Better yet, the AA2230, is printing 3/4" at 300 and flatter shooting than a 220 Swift at 3900 fps. The 60g Sierra HP keeps surprising you with its accuracy, whether using H335 or AA2230, yielding incredible barrel life, Rem 7 1/2s.

Using H322, you will cut your barrel life in half vs H335 or AA2230, not to mention double the cleaning needed.

I prefer a 6 BRX or a 6 Dasher for 70/75g and a 6x47/6XC for 87s. I really hate that shooting over and under due to poor trajectory.

Yes, this. AckleymanII has worn out more barrels shooting more rounds at those things than you would believe. Prairie dogs aren't the same as putting holes in paper. Speed is good and with the right bullets they blow up very nicely.

I’ve done some work with the 75 gr vmax in the past just shooting targets and steel. I was never real satisfied with the grouping, but I needed to try a different powder. I was using varget if I remember correctly. Thanks!

Good info as always! Thanks!
