6.5cm or .308

I tried that calculator and it doesn't seem to work yet.
I ran it using 10# rifle with .264 @2650fps
And .308 @ 2650fps based on a 10 pound rifle. Only adjustment was to powder charge
To maintain velocity of 308. Calculations were based of a typical Varget powder charge.

Edit: I did also adjust bullet weight to OP's
Parameters

Have both, shot both in local club matches. Creed is way easier to shoot all day in a match. And from my experience from 4 rifles of each caliber, the Creed rifles have out shot the 308 rifles. That's not just my opinion of which caliber is more accurate, it is just my personal experience.

PRS has designated 308 in it's own class. Most of the "old fart" tactical matches I shoot have long had a 308 only class. How many 308's are seen in long range BR matches? The only 30 calibers (majority) are 300WSM in heavy guns. We shoot 6's for many reasons.
I have both 308 and 6.5 Creedmoor in custom builds. Shooting them for comparison in same conditions the 6.5 Creedmoor is way out front in the scoring department. I once had a former military sniper tell me "I was shooting really the Creedmoor well so decided to shoot my 308 for a while. Who was I kidding?".
The Creedmoor gets no love here but without it the rifle games would still be living in "the dark ages". Much the same when you talk of 6PPC and 6 Dasher.

Will I ever be without both? Absolutely not! I don't have to choose.

I'll probably never own a .308, we do have a 260, 6.5cm, and the venerable 30-06.
Out of curiosity I ran its #'s through the recoil calculator, it's just a tad bit under a 300wm.

I’d go whichever you can get cheaper. If there the same I’d give the nod to the 6.5 due to better ballistics and lighter recoil. But you should get longer barrel life out of the 308. Close call...get both

The OP ask for a opinion with very restricted set-up , regarding the .308 , and got all you guys wound up . Let's compare equal competitive loads , for the .308 . A typical F class TR .308 load for 1,000 is avg. of 44.3gr Varget ( or higher ) behind a 200gr Hybrid , and as I stated earlier , 2640 - 2660 MV . When you start laying down parameters like using a SMK/TMK and reduced velocities , the .308 will not compare favorably . Kind of like a CM load at 2640 and a 100/90gr bullet . Most of the TR shooters I know and shoot with at BA shoot 200gr bullets at 1,000 . And for the un-initiated , most TR guns weigh in at 17-1/2 to 18lbs. They aren't 7lb. hunting rifles . If recoil is a issue , don't shoot TR . Take your CM and go shoot open with it and get beat up . Grew up shootin a .308 and carried a 17lb XM-21 in Nam for awhile . "Ain't no big thang". Like I said earlier ....Nothin wrong with a CM . Just not my choice ....But let's not try comparing a CM comp load to a load I wouldn't hunt with out of a .308 .. Like everyone else , JMO .

Sorry but didn't see the OP mention F-Class, especially FTR, at all. You are pigeon-holing an answer and providing info based on (my guess) 30" or even longer barrel and short brass life with that stiff a load. Put a 6.5 Creedmoor to the same test parameters and guess what, the 6.5 still performs better than 308.

My apologies to the OP and whoever else that took my response about recoil the wrong way.
I did the recoil velocity chart just for general information and comparison purposes only.
I used 10# as a base line trying to create an even platform for comparison sake.
06' was done @9# cuz that's what I shoot.

Now back to my study of how much RL17
it takes to flatten a CCI200 pushing a 123.

308 is F/TR, 6.5 is F/open. big difference. Even if he is not talking F/ Class this is where these two compete in context to his question

Guys it's not f class. It's a local steel match. Both have a brake so recoil is not an issue. And I decided on the 6.5 cm. Thank you for ALL the input. :)

That much I know about F-Class. That is what made @D-4297 post even more quizzical. Plus the OP specifically mentioned for shooting steel and belly-busters don't do that either. I seriously doubt many F-Open shooters shoot 6.5 Creedmoor over Dasher or .284 Win.

Just a thought while reading this wonderful thread, that of all the interesting calibers available I’m not sure I would need another 308 type.
Maybe;

WSM
BR
Dasher
XC
SAUM
New Wildcat of some kind...

LOL...ya done good!

FWIW nothing shoots the same "all day long"...no matter what kind "tube" you have, what kind of "pills" you shoot or how many "thou" it took you to find the "magic place."
