6.5 Grendel Model 7

This is my personal project.
Remington Model 7 6.5 Grendel
The bolt came from a Remington 700 that had seen better days, so I chopped off the appropriate amount, rethreaded the body, and modified the bolt face. The original bolt was a 308w, after removing the extractor, opening the face to .625 and soldering a steel bushing in place, I opened it up to .445". After the face lift, I installed a Defiance Mini M16 extractor. Next on the docket is recutting the cocking cam and installing a new bolt handle to correct the primary extraction issues. The final product will wear a Proof 16.5" Sendero lite 7.5t barrel, with an AG Composites Chalkbranch stock.

For those wondering, the mini m16 will work nicely with the grendel. You just have to work the difference in from 308 to PPC. AICS magazines will also work and hold 11rds.

Looks nice but why just a 16" barrel? I have 2 - 20" barrels and they shoot pretty good. Have seen some 16 and 18" barrels shoot great also but just wondered why people are using the shorter barrels. Have also seen a lot of guys using the Grendel in 12.5 " barrels too. Not trying to be contrary but wonder why people are using the shorter barrels?
Wish I had the tools and talent to do the machinist work also. Looks good by the way.

Im runing a 6" suppressor that is a big part of the choice. Other factors are speed doesn't matter when you're killing, you're not going to gain anything significant over 18" with the Grendel so I'm not losing anything significant with the loss of 1.5". 300yd and in is all I need/ require for this build.

Thanks, I bought my Grendels about 6 years ago. I have heard that anything after 18” you don’t gain anything. I probably will never get a long shot where I hunt anyway unless a coyote is stupid enough to do that. I really like the cartridge also.
Do you get to night hunt where you live? I have seen videos of a guy on another forum that uses NV and suppression and all I can say is I am extremely jealous. Gets kills and records the hunt at night and really wears the coyotes and hogs out. Thanks for the post and info.

If you ever make another one of those bolt's im interested in a 6mm Grendel bolt gun...Damn nice work my friend.
Great Caliber choice..love my Grendel's too.

Excellent machine work. Love the 6.5 grendel round also for plinking and hunting. I have a 22”, 20”, and a few 16”. Although, I hunt with the 22” the 16” rifle handles really nice.
