The 6.5 Grendel is nearly a scale model of the 7 BR Remington

The case length is the same, the ratio of base diameter, shoulder diameter and bullet diameter between the two cartridges are almost the same. As a long time fan of the 7 BR very set up for loading it for my Lone Eagle pistol, I have dreamed of a 7BR rifle. A 7BR rifle is an expensive custom, and problematic due to feeding and best suited for a more expensive single shot action. Brass availability is another mildly complicating factor.

The Howa mini action rifle in 6.5 Grendel is the cheapest way to get almost what I desire, but would require a custom stock to make it lovely, ditching the moulded stock. Closer would be to purchase a barreled action Howa mini in 6.5 Grendel and make a wood stock, or just an action and open the bolt face to allow 7BR and get a custom barrel. Bottom metal for single shot would have to be made.

Ruger makes one ( Grendel ) in their American Predator which is a great shooter !

I just had a post about the howas. Everyone but a few agreed they aint worth it and dont shoot great. I got multiple pms saying dont do it too.

Sniper338 will you explain in depth? Is it the Howa mini? Or is it the 6.5 Grendel the problem? Or is it the combo of the two?

Howa is reported as a good rifle (regular 1500 models).

I have been wanting a mini badly and was considering one in the Grendel.

Thanks

I've heard just the opposite; the Howa mini in 6.5 G is a decent shooter with heavy barrel.

I'm always skeptical and haven't acquired a mini in 6.5G anyway, my thought is, if I'm not seating long, why not an AR? for the 20" bull barrel, I'd still toss it and get something 26" throated for long seating. Circling back to a Howa mini factory action and barrel, I see better results from Howa than Ruger, but a nice CZ in 7.62x39 may be the ticket since I'm planning on ditching the barrel. Howa has decent factory 2-stage triggers though...

It all depends what you call good. If 1 inch is good for you, with hand loads you will be satisfied. If you dont want nothing that wont bug hole, skip it. Nothing to do with caliber. Everyone said the actions are good, action aint the kicker, its the barrel. Some reported it was luck of the draw, some shoot real good, others are "moa" aka 1.2 inches at 100 yards.

Im picky personally... wasnt my deal. Id like to have one of the actions to build from though. Guys that pm me and said they built off the actions, new barrel, bedded, etc, said the shoot fabulously/bug hole and are the bees knees

Love my Howa Mini. But it came as a Barreled action and the 6.5 G barrel came off and went right in the trash can. A 6mm Fat Rat Barrel was Chambered up as was 224 Grendel Barrel both at 24"
Set inside a Boyds Varmint Pro stock.

I've got a mini in 6.5 G and like it. I really like the Grendel round. Mine shoots a lot better than 1 MOA at 100 with hand loads. I put it in the Boyd's AT-1 stock and like it. That being said I also have an AR platform with a BHW Barrel (both barrels are 20") and the AR is more accurate. I relate that to it being a custom barrel. I carry it more than the Howa Mini. Mine actually is a .264 LBC but is the same thing as a 6.5 Grendel. I believe the barrel is the heart of a weapon anyway. Look at a custom rifle vs a factory rifle. If you buy a Howa mini get the aluminum bottom metal also. The Howa factory bottom metal is a cheap pos in my book. Don't really care for the plastic mags either. As far as the shooting from factory It will do ok but it needs to be pillar bedded and skim bedded. I bought the heavy barreled action and would not buy the stock from Howa as I consider it a pos also.

I do really like the 7BR. It kicks a little hard for what you get out of it compared to a 6.5BR but it's still a little sweetheart.

My 154 SST ram loads. 2250fps from 30 grains of powder out of a 24" tube.
