6.5 bullet choice

It really was the best deal on a good bullet anywhere for almost year. When I spoke to them last November they only had ~20,000 left. Genuinely surprised it lasted as long as it did.
Me too! Sometimes you just stumble into a good deal. As a side note 2yrs ago I walked into the local Scheels and they had red tagged Sierra 30cal 175smk's for 24.99 a box! First time I ever had to use a shopping cart and the elevator!

The 142 SMK has a smoother transition than the Berger. Like an artillery shell. Looks like the Berger would try to tumble sooner as it slows down. Just looking at them. I spend a lot of time looking at the abstract so It might sound like I'm just bowing smoke.

The why is nice to know, but if your input gives the right output consistently then that's a result. In theory if my load has touching shots at 100m it should still be pretty small at 500m, wind and user ability notwithstanding.
Yes sir. I couldn't see any difference at 1000 yds. But once they went transonic, the Berger was all over the place at a mile. Some one told me the long tip on the Berger is susceptible to tipping because of the rearward weight?

That does support my current thinking. Pick the right bullet for the job you want to do, then the velocity, the cartridge, barrel length and stock. Basically the reverse of how most buy their guns, myself included!

For ME, I found that, the 130 Grain, ELD-M ( .554 BC ) at, 2,850 ish FPS was, the Best "Combination" out of, a Braked, sub 8 lb. 6.5 Creed, Tikka, to obtain, awesome accuracy with LOW,.. almost NO,.. Recoil !
( One Hole, 5 shot group's from the 3's to, 1/2 MOA )
I Know that, the 142 SMK's, 144 Berg's and 147 grain, ELD-M's Will "Outperform" this Load PAST, 800 Yards.
But I only Need good, "Accuracy" to 800-850 Yards and I won't sacrifice, MORE Recoil for using, the Heavier Bullets
( I Shoot Informal, Field Positions, at, 10-12 inch Dia., Steel Plates and this Bullet/ Load,.. DOES it, Fine ).
I WAS very Tempted to Buy, the 142 SMK's on Sale @ 400 for $99.00,.. a couple of Days, ago !
I had to Remember, Just HOW Pleasant, My main "Practice Load",.. was,.. to Shoot !

I loaded up some 130 gr TMK, 130 ELD and 130 OTM bullets and the ELD Hornady shot the best my far for me too. I have a bunch of IMR 4451 so I thought they might me more accurate with a little faster powder than I use RL16 or 4350 and the 4451 worked great with 41.7 gr. The do have less recoil.

I Liked the 123 gr Eld-M's very Much also,.. But, Opted for, the 10 Percent Higher BC's of, the 130 grain ( And the Accuracy IS, awesome ) Found that, there was, very Little difference in Felt Recoil with, the slightly heavier Bullet.
I'm Happy with THIS Bullet For, My Needs. I Use, 43.3 grains, "Thrown Charges" of, StaBall 65.
Getting 2,850 FPS from, a 24 inch Barrel.
My MOA / BC, chart "Data" enabled me to, Dial for, Hits, on 11" Plates at,.. 710 Yds.
Did 7 shots, in a Row. We will move Plates on Out to, 8-850 yds,.. Next Time
850 yards is probably, as Far as, this Ole guy can Hear,.. the "Ting" of the Bullet !

Agreed. I normally shoot 123s & 130s in my 6.5x47s. I find myself dabbling in the NRL Hunter game and have to make a power factor. It rewards heavier pills, no way to get there with my bbl lengths in the x47 with 123-136s. Still tbd if I can safely and accurately drive 142s the required 2,680. My buddy is shooting the 142s in Creedmoor. At $.29 ea delivered, I can always sell them to him if I can’t.
