6-284 for coyotes

what do you guys think about the 6-284 for coyotes at close and long range and if i shot it in cooler weather would the barrel last longer also what grain bullet would be the best choice for fur

I just love 6-284s. Then again I dont care about barrel life or hides:). I have only tried a few bullets and they were anything but friendly to the hides.

My opinionis no, not enough to tell the difference. There are many more experienced/educated folks on here that may argue that.

It is gonna be really hard to maybe impossible to find a "long-range" 6mm bullet that'll be good on fur. I've owned several bigger 6's and never found 1 that was a good long-range candidate, that worked well enuf on fur.

There was an article in Fur, Fish, Game mag last year about a guy in Iowa that was using a Savage 308 Tactical model, don't know which 1), and he was using factory match 160 something for long-range coyotes out to 700 yds. or so. He was also selling the fur, and exit wounds were small, with decent terminal ballistics way out there. That's what i'd opt for these days if i were trying for a LR coyote rifle.
