6 BR for Coyotes???

I have a 6BR sporter with a 14" twist Pac-Nor Barrel and I was wondering if anyone had tried this cartridge with the 58 gr. V-Max on Groundhogs and/or Coyotes....Is the 65 gr. V-Max better>>??? What kind of velocity is reasonable to expect with a 22" barrel with these bullet weights.. What powder would be best for this bullet weight range??????I'm getting ready to do some testing and would appreciate any suggestions.... Thanks ..George

QuikLoad predicts, for 22" barrel, 3426fps with a 65gr V-Max and 31.5gr H322 max. With Benchmark, prediction is 3353fps with a half-grain more powder.

WARNING: These are only computer predictions, always start 10% low and work up. Variations in seating depth can and do produce MAJOR variations in pressure and velocity. Ambient temps will alter pressures also... so be safe.

But it does appear you should get into the mid-threes pretty easy with the 65 V-Max. With the 70gr Blitz-King, QuikLoad predicts 3300 with 30.5gr max charge of H322. Any of the bullets you name should work fine. The longer bullets will have a slightly better BC. H322 looks like a good choice for your application.

I use the 58 gr Vmax on coyotes with good success. I have never
lost one yet. My coyote gun is a bit odd compared to a benchrest
gun. It's a Remington 788 that was a 22-250. The 6mmBR rounds
function very well out of the detachable magazines allowing me
to carry several loaded magazines when hunting coyotes. It is a funkly looking gun with a 6.5x20 Leupold on top but it works.

My 6BR sports a 1:14 twist Hart barrel with .265 neck diameter and is 22" long. I have had great success with the following loads using Lapua brass:
1) 34.5 grn. Varget with CCI 450 small mag. primer, 65 grn.
Hornady V-Max touching or slightly,.005) into the lands.
Velocity = approx. 3400 ft/s., and accuracy is < 3/8" @
200 yds. with a five shot group. The 65 grn. Bergers,MEF)
shoot just as well as the V-Maxes. In fact, I can't see
spending the extra money on the Bergers, as the increase
in accuracy is negligible.
2) 31.0 grn. VV135 using the same bullets as above but with
Federal small rifle match primers. Accuracy is a little
tighter than above, velocity is unknown.
3) 33.8 grn. Varget with CCI 450 small mag. primer, 70 grn.
Nosler ballistic tip touching or slightly into lands.
Accuracy approx. 1/2" @ 200 yds. The same charge works
for 68 grn. Fowlers.
If you use Lapua brass, leave the flash hole alone. Be advised that the above loads are safe in my rifle. Back off of my loads and work up slowly, looking for signs of pressure. I have some 58 grn. V-Maxes but have not shot them yet. This is my first 6BR and I have am very impressed with the caliber. A well put together rifle in this caliber will shoot anything, within the twist rate and bullet match, as accurately as a varmint hunter would ever want. Good luck and hope this info. gives you a starting point. By the way, I used most of the info. on this web-site in developing my loads along with the reloading manuals. This is a great web-site with many knowledgeable shooters.

The 55 grain Sierra works very well in my 6BR with a Pac Nor 1 in 12 twist. Woodchucks just twitch their tail when this bullet hits.

I also use 58 and 65 V-Max bullets and they kill well too. The 55 Nosler ballistic tips kill well but they are not nearly as accurate in my rifle.
