Don't think things'll change much either with the ever increasing presence of electric cars all the hoopla's about. The state of the grid in much of our country is already on the edge of failure when faced with peak demand loads. Any significant number of plug-in cars will only make the rest of us suffer when the grid fails, then we all go dark.

The link is not working friend, but i agree at your point the presence of plug-in cars are somehow useless in this trade.

I am told that gas is $8.50 per gallon in Ireland and $9.25 per gallon in Scotland.

Near as dammit right! Here in England I pay about $9.30/$9.50 approx for a gallon of diesel. So to fill up my VW Golf it costs about $115. The government take a whopping percentage in tax out of the $9.50. So am jealous that petrol/diesel is cheaper in the USA, but as for travelling to various shooting competitions here in the UK (Bisley, Diggle and Blair Atholl) we may not cover anywhere near the mileage you do over there to attend shoots. I did have a petrol 2 litre VW Passat getting 40 mpg max on long runs but changed to the 2 litre diesel and now get 69 mpg, so a no brainer really.
Enjoy the cheap fuel while you can!!!!

I really don't think it matters about drilling, or anything else, it boils down too greed and the oil cos. are making us pay for the next election. They fund both sides,so it's a no loose for them no matter who wins.
The best part is no COL. for SSI. for 3 years but they gave the gov. workers one every year. What a joke, they take from the fixed income people and give it to the companies for poor management and to hold a party ......jim

Jim,

Get a grip. Yep...the oil companies are making a profit....big whoop. Their profit margin hasn't gone up nearly as much as the cost of gas. Why is that? If gas goes up 50%, then, by your reasoning, thier profits go up 50%. They don't. As a percentage, their profit % hasn't gone up that much.

The oil industry is the most over regulated, taxed, re taxed , and stifeled industry in the country.....PERIOD. The fricken government and the eco freaks are what makes gas high in this country. They make us buy oil from the mid east. Oil isn't $30 dolars a BBL...its right below $100 a bbl...it costs the oil companies way more per bbl than it did in the "good old days". High overhead....high taxes, highly regulated.....Why in hell does almost every state have thier own (and mostly different form each other) fuel standards and regulations...the EPA...the gov....thats why. Give us one blend of fuel gas for the entire country.....quit choking the $%^&$# out of the oil companies..let them drill....Build the fricken piplines and the refineries....get the hell out of the way and let the market dictate prices.

If that's not enough, after the oil companies, refining companies, wholesalers, gas stations...ect...are taxed to death..the state and fed Gov then tax the $^**# out of us. Did you look at the tax per gal of gas that YOU pay?!!!

Oh, and by the way.....you guys who are pissed about "profit". Take a look at Apple Computers quarterly profits......Microsoft's quarterleys...then bitch to me about the "greedy oil companies"!!

Funny...I just went back to look at this thread and my post......Didn't realize that it was 11 pages long and dates back 8 months!!! I saw the title of the thread.....got 1/2 way down the FIRST page and replyed to a post.....didn't realize that were were 10 more pages of (old) responces...!!! LOL

Next time take a look at dates,,

Thanks for draggin up an old topic,, the cost of fuel at the pump right now is about nothing but Profit. There is no freaking shortage,, WallStreet futures traders are dancing with glee, the refineries are running just fine and shareholders of big oil need to pay taxes on their profits.

It's all just plain about greed, squeezin the poor working sott.

4X.........excellent post. Supply and demand still works. Personally, I don't care if gas goes to $6 per gallon if it helps us to elect a president that puts America first instead of politics.

Talkin' about fuel costs, here's my grouse. :) I sold my very efficient Mooney when fuel went past 5 bucks a gallon. Fillup was $320, could take me about 900 nautical (1035 statute) miles. It's north of 6 bucks now. Has really squeezed the weekend flier just about out of the air. I'm sure there are shooters that commute by air to the matches. If you can track one down, talk to him about fuel.

No slow down yet but the price went up. Sunoco shut down three refineries, i thought the reason the high cost of gas was not enough capacity at the refineries? Now the big O stops the pipe line. He's putting us in a world of $hit.......jim

I love it when someone tells you how much of a profit you should make and how much in taxes you should pay,,,,,,,,, usually being told by someone who is making more profit, paying less taxes than you are! I hope he's 'cooked his goose' by nixing the XL pipe line. He couldn't OK that,, it'd make too much sense! Might create jobs and profit and bad things like that! And, we'd not be sending as many dollars to the middle east. OH! for shame!

This topic died about the same time the shooting season started last year... Funny how it's back to life after we're about half way through the off-season. Appears some of us have cabin fever already :)

Cabin fever? Cripes, I'll be glad when deer season is over. I've been at it since the beginning of September. End of the month is it for me. Still trying to kill the local behemoth. The hunter dodging genius shows up on the camera at all the wrong times. ;D

Still have ours....be kinda tough to tow a trailer with all my shhhkrap in it!!

Oh, and to the guys pissin and moannin about bringing up a 6 month old thread...well, I didn't do it, but...YOUR WELCOME!!!

Oh ya...if you don't like the price of gas.....don't buy it!!

Or vote for people that will fix America, the problem is the "free loaders" voting them self money. I saw on TV some states require that you take any job if you are on unemployment. Some woman with a masters that has been out of work for over a year is being forced into an min-wage job. Oh well that is a reason to look harder.

Where is gasoline 6.00 per gallon.Up in upstate new york its about 3.50 and 4.00 at marina's.

Somebody wanna buy a tank full of diesel fuel for my motorhome? We'll be needing 344 gallons to get from here in south TX to Ohio via OK and NC.

BTW, the tank holds 150 gallons.

Bill, What kind of mileage do you get on that motorhome?

I wish it was 9mpg. It's 7.5 - and that's keeping her at 62MPH or less. I'm moving 22 tons (including the pickup in tow) down the road, so I guess it's not too bad.

Oh well, I guess that's the price I have to pay to always have my home with me.

Me neither. And back in 2007 diesel was cheaper than gasoline. I remember feeling bad for our friends that had a gas motorhome. Their rig weighed less than ours, carried less, had less interior room and storage, had less power, got worse mileage, yet he had to pay more for fuel.
