45 vs 10mm

I have both from the Colt custom shop. While I love the ten and would use it for hunting/target, the 45 is the go to for defense. It all depends on how you plan to use it.

An awful lot of living things aren't alive any longer because they met the wrong end of a 45 acp. I've got 380's, I've got 9's, I've got a 357 Sig, and I've got a 45. The Dan Wesson ECO is now my preferred carry.

Ive wanted a 10mm for years. Wife says no everytime I ask. Probably go Glock, even though I really like Springfield XD's. One day. Ive never been a 45 fan, id rather have a few more bullets in the mag...

While your statement is very true, The other side of that coin is energy available to produce shock trauma.

While i don't like it, but the honest truth is that I can't shoot my ten anymore due to the arthritis in my hands having become to painful to let me enjoy shooting it. I'm not interested in "lite" loads in ten so it will go to a friend for a springfield compact 3.8 .45acp whose recoil is much easier on my old beat up hands.
The 9+1 compact mag and the three 13rd extended mags will make it the bear gun for now.

I want a 10mm too, I'm leaning toward the Delta Elite. Was looking at the Ruger until I saw they were having some issues. Anyone have input on the Colt?

I will clarify for those that believe the 10mm is close to 41mag performance. Winchester makes 175 grain silvertip ammo for both the 10mm and the 41mag. They are identical in power as factory loads. That's how the misconception started with people claiming the 10mm is right on the heels of the 41 mag. Not true. Only in that factory load is that true. The 41 magnum far out powers the 10mm per round in velocity and energy but only for 5-6 rounds. No comparison in firepower however. I'll always chose the 10mm over any wheel gun for that reason.

How knowledgeable is she about guns? What about math?

You can always try slipping one into the collection and tell her that 10mm is simply the European / metric designation of .45.

Depends what you’re doing with it. I would give a thumbs up for the 10mm as a hunting round.

I don't understand this. If you could choose either of your identical size and configuration Colt 1911's that you show in your photo, then why would you choose the lesser energy .45 cartridge for defense? Personally, my believing that the first shot matters, I'd carry the 44mag if it were made in a 1911. If you were to answer that faster recovery of aim and control as the reason, then one might better be off with the higher capacity 9mm altogether, as so many have gravitated to.

Personal preference for the two I own. The 45 is much more comfortable to shoot and gets shot more than the 10.

my XDS 45 gets carried more than both of 1911’s.

The one in the photo is a Delta Gold Cup that I had Colt customize and I’ve had no issues with it.

Like Trophied said, there has been a lot of our enemies bit the dust from a 45. No telling how many Krauts and Gooners met their maker from a 45 from WW1 - Vietnam.

Thanks, but neither my P-14, S&W 1076, or either of my S&W 29's carry as easy as my G33 or P365. Doubt a 41 Blackhawk conceals better then my 29. lol. But if I did ever carry my P-14 to battle, I'd wish it was in a 10mm.

Love them both. Have both. Use them in auto and revolver platforms. .45ACP knocks bowling pins down. 10mm removes them from the table.
