40 Gr. Ballistic Tips in 12 twist .204R barrel??

If you get time to run the stability numbers on the 40 Nosler BT, it would be interesting to see the difference.
I have never tested the Nosler 40, and now that I am retired, I don't have the run of labs or range facilities.

The version of the AB code I am running doesn't have the Nosler 40 data, but I can find published length data on JBM. I just can't verify the bullet flight by radar track.

A simple comparison of the published lengths would tell us how they would compare. They are shown at a length of 0.745" so they would split the difference between the 39 SBK 0.732" and the VMax 0.752"

Thanks for the info. I've had several factory Savage barrels, both small and large shank and none would shoot the 40 V-Max well. I'd like to have an alternative to the 39 BK, so guess I'll try a box of the 40 BT's.

FWIW, 40 gr NBT scattered to 2 moa in my Browning A-Bolt 204R with factory 12 twist. Yet it stacks 39 BK and 40 gr B.I.B.s. into clusters, and shoots Hornady 45 grain soft points sub MOA. Never tried anything else.

I wouldn’t waste my time. Any 40 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips I’ve tried in the three 12-twist .204s I’ve owned have keyholed. The only 40s I can remember shooting decently without tumbling were, ironically, in some Remington Premiere factory ammo the dealer threw in when I bought the rifle (remember those days, lol?) Not sure who makes those bullets for Remington, and haven’t seen any of their branded ones on reloading shelves for years.
