338 Lapua Bipod Suggestions

Just looking for suggestions on a bipod for the big 338 Lapua, (112 Savage). Is the Harris stout enough or should I be looking at something a lot heaver duty? Thanks. HB

Heavier duty. The rifle torque will make it jump on those cheap bipods.

You will need an f class bipod. I shot a rempel on mine for a while, and now a joypod. The wide footprint makes a huge difference

Im curious about the above picture here depicting 6 shots on a 10 inch circle at a thousand yards. If my calculations are correct, the 5 horizontal shots in conjunction with the bullet diameter of .300" only produces 1.50" of width within that 10 inch circle. Perhaps you meant 100 yards? If you're shooting continuous groups like that at 1000, I should have your autograph.

Hmmm. Maybe the caliber was wrong. They would need to be 2" bullet holes for that to be a 10" circle.

So much good information to digest now, thanks a lot guys. I wasn't sure, I've always shot off my Hart front rest on a bench. Starting to get interested in prone shooting and bipod on benches. Thanks HB

I shot a Harris bipod at the SE ELR match with a 300WM and a heavy load. I don't think it hurt me because I took 2nd place and the guy I coached took 1st.

Not saying it's ideal but don't be afraid to use what you got either.

Dwall that is impressive, Good On Ya

Nice waterline!

I'll cast another vote for Harris...... I have a lot of 'pods but prefer Harris to all others and typically supply Harris on my setups. Sometimes when I'm running in a new gun the thought crosses my mind "one of these days.... ONE of these days I'ma' bring one of these to a 600/1000 competition" :)

BTW, with 3-4 well-supported front stud positions (I drill thru and machine screw them to an inset/epoxied AL plate) you can TUNE the setup with the 'pod....

jus' sayin'

A Harris will work just fine. Shot from a 338 lapua at 1,000 yards. The orange dot is 3 inches. I added spiked feet and can now watch the bullet impact.

Looks like a 3" circle to me. Maybe he was shooting 3" circles at 1000?
