338 BR

I don't have any experience with sub sonic .338. All my .338 stuff is Lapua. I've been having some fun with the .458 SCOM it will sub the 500 to 600 grain bullets nicely. bolt face is the same as the BR too.

Will do.

I did check all the listed rental places.
No go on an actual reamer available.

The stupid thing about this project is that an 8 twist 30-BR (250 A-Tip) will run neck and neck with the 338 and a 285-300gr bullet going subsonic.
However, the 338 has the ability to hit with 50gr more bullet weight.

I honestly don't know how important that is.

It would also mean purchasing another supressor.
And dies.
And 338 bullets.
And...
What do you plan to shoot with it? Game or paper/steel???

I have been collecting parts for a 30BR that I could suppress. Got an 8 twist barrel, and was offered access to use a from die and made over a hundred 30 BR cases out of Lake City 308s. My thoughts were I could carry subs and supers and choose what I thought i needed. Some day the rest of the parts will appear.

Several years ago I stopped by JD Jones business and he showed me a rifle chambered in 338 Whisper based on 7 BR.
I immediately knew I had to have one. A 14 inch stainless contender barrel showed up on an auction and I won the auction. Left cartridge is loaded with Hornady 285 gr bullet and right cartridge is loaded with Nosler 300 gr HP CC bullet
Load is 10.2 grs of HP and velocity for 300 gr bullet is 1004 fps. Once in a while I’ll shoot a metallic silhouette match with it. When you hit the 100m,150m, 200m targets it sounds like you hit target with a hammer. Definitely a fun cartridge to shoot.
I have let probably a dozen guys shoot it and they laugh at how mild the recoil is.

I have the 309 JDJ and I love it.

There's something really, super fun about big bore, heavy bullet stuff.
I shoot a lot of 45LC 335gr out of my 5.5" Ruger Bisley. They don't need to go fast to hit hard.

I should probably figure out a 5-600gr subsonic 45-70 load for my Contender.

I wasn't sure because we went off track. Which is totally fine with me.

I haven't looked for a reamer print.

Maybe @z2013 can chime in with the gunsmith that he used. I'm pretty sure there's a print for a 338-BR and not the 338 Whisper since it would most likely have a lot less free bore. That's what people seem to be using.

I wanted to get 2.7-2.8" OAL to use standard AICS magazines.

After playing with my current Robinette chamber, I'm not convinced I need any extra length. Touch point with the 215 Hybrid is 2.435. That length fits perfectly in my MDT mag. I rarely load the mag. Most times I insert a single shot sled, but I do want the option of follow up shots.
With that said, here's a couple of images.

There's more than enough room for 10-ish grains of powder for subsonic use.

If, for some reason I want to shoot the 125 NBT supersonic, I can get 34gr of LT 30 underneath it. Probably a lot more if I go a ball powder.

Dangit, now I'll have to build the 30 first, then maybe the 338 down the road.
