30BR with H322

:)4198 is the most popular powder used in the 30BR but it's also one of the easiest to tune and keep in tune so maybe we do get comfortable using it in the 30BR for that reason ! but RG Robinett and AL Nhyus said there is other powders and a upper & Lower note that will work also, and 4 or 5 of these powders might work better in a particular Barrel but we just don't try Them ! I have some old Reloader 7 that I have thought about trying along with LT-30 Lt-32 H-322 extreme that I have 8 lbs of and some rather Hot AA-2015 who knows Thanks Jimmymac for your post I thought the 6.5 Creedmore had wiped us 30BR lovers off this site ! Keep them coming it's the 30BR resurrection

I just hope it doesn't hurt me with recoil ... I'll find out.
Just in case I'm having an old 6bra barrel from 2yrs ago cut back.
Gotta make 13.5 weight

Recoil on this 13.5 pound gun has not been an issue for me at all. I attribute a lot of it to the sorbothane recoil pad Dave made for me when he built the gun. This gun has been pleasant to shoot. Everyone has different sensitivity to recoil. I'm considering having a 30BR barrel chambered up for use on my LV gun. Before I do that, I'm going to have to ask Dave to fit me up a recoil pad for that stock.

I'd like to see that recoil pad. I know my rifle is gonna have an aluminum butt plate.
I may have to design or buy a shoulder pad. I don't want I see sold. I want a clip on my shirt type that hangs like a big name badge.

You can see the pad in the photo of my gun. Dave made me an aluminum butt plate and added his recoil pad on top of that. It turned out very nice.

As a relatively new centerfire shooter with a 30br I followed the pack. Its refreshing for me at least to see a thread like this because I prefer to think outside the box, as a general rule. I think I'll try some of the other powders during our winter league to see how it does. Thanks jimmymac for the post.

I couldn't make weight with a rubber recoil pad, so I took a small towel and folded it vertically..lay it over my shoulder..Ta Da..thinner than a recoil pad and manageable recoil on my collar bone (mine protrudes).

That may be my choice. I have to think weight also

One of these: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1002530831?pid=680235 was recommended to me and it helped a lot with the recoil of the 30 BR. Seems like no matter what I tried, the aluminum plate on the buttstock of the rifle smashed into my collar bone.

Thanks for this thread. I'm new to the 30 BR and always interested in threads about it. Not getting your kind of groups yet so definitely have some development ahead.

Is there any room here for 30x47. I recently bought a dasher w/ a spare barrel in 30 x 47. I put it on and sighted in scope. 1st 3 shot group @ 100 measured .19. 44gr. 8208 w/ 125 sierra green tips.
Recoil therapy!!!!

Yes, fools like me still occasionally best the 30 BR totters using a trusty 30x47HBR, which despite demanding a little more powder, produces extreme precision: at a recent NBRSA tournament, despite my physical impairment, one of my old 30x47 BBLs shot the sole 500-xx , and also won both yardages. The load, via a BAT actioned, Bartlein 1:18" twist, 5-groove, was a 112 Gr. bullet, propelled by 43.2 Gr. of H-322(Extreme), in combination with CCI-BR4. I have no idea what the velocity is . . . and don't care.:D

The biggest obstacle to the 30x47HBR was making good cases - that was pretty much cured when LAPUA SAAMI spec'd the 6.5x47L cartridge, which was simply a necked-down clone of the original 30x47HBR. My Dan Green clone of Guy Chism's 30x47 and my Hugh Henriksen 6mm; .25 ; 6.5; 30x47 LAPUA reamers head-spce exactly the same.

The only notable difference being the "web" diameters (0.200" ahead of the bolt-face): the Old [Dan Green] reamer, since we used Win. .300 Savage brass (usually .463-.464"), cut a diameter of .466", and the [Henriksen] LAPUA reamers cut .472" at the web, as the LAPUA brass is usually about .469 -.4695". ;)RG

No additional testing has happened beyond my initial results, other than going back and confirming it wasn't a fluke. Out of curiosity, I did set out to find a better way to get 37.2 grains of powder in my cases, so I got in touch with Steve at Benchrite and bought one of these:

https://benchrite.com/long-drop-tube-funnel-with-screw-off-tube/

It's now easy to get 37.2 grains of H322 in the case without jumping through hoops. With that funnel setup, charging up to 39 grains is a possibility. Down the road, I'll play some more as time permits and bump my loads up in .2 grain increments to see where this goes. Tweaking and testing for me is fun.

Thanks for chiming I’m on my thread. The 30BR threads don’t get much play with this site mostly drawing the long range crowd. Considered deleting this thread because it’s almost like talking to myself.
I run the 7MM BR and I find the same issues as you.....and I just love my 7MM BR so I can see why you love your 30BR..... I am doing load development that has hunting quality and accuracy quality as well soo so far H-4895 has been the ticket with H-4198 running all my light loads(100gr) please dont delete your threads as I find 30BR info just as helpfull as 7mm BR info....

To expound on what Randy said...In my case I ran 37.2 grains of H322 that produced the groups in the first photo. I loaded them up and used a Forster funnel with drop tube and the cases were filled to within less than 1/8" of the case mouth. I actually vibrated my loading block with an ultrasonic tooth brush after the cases were filled to get the powder to settle some. It helped, but just a bit. These were some pretty compressed charges. The powder resistance when seating forced me to remove .003" of shims from my seating die to achieve my desired CBTO. I was nervous the bullets would back out of the case, but they didn't.

I hesitate to list powder charges because every gun is different. None of the loads listed here caused any pressure signs in my gun, so I'm comfortable with what I'm doing. Anyone reading this should work up their own loads accordingly.
I had a problem with my 7mm BR that you touched on the bullet backed out of the case... I was doing load development with H-4895 and I settled on 33gr in true 7mm BR cases ..... when filled with H-4895 the powder came all the way up the neck to about an 1/8 inch to the top. so I tapped them down and gained another 1/16th.. so I installed my 145gr speer spbt to a COAL of 2.333 .. all was good till I went hunting.I put the first round in and cycled it in and out with no issue.. so I racked the second round,,this time the bullet had jammed against the lands spilling powder everywhere... so I measured the remaining rounds and three of the 18 had migrated out to 2.4...so if I reduce 1/2 gr will it help alleviate migration you think? these are for hunting and at current load spec I am at 2600 fps so 1/2 gr wont kill me if it will help bullet movement

Even though I run H-4198 and H4895 in my 7mm BR I just bought H-332 and H-335 to try on my
100gr,, 110gr,, 115gr and 120gr pills Its deer season here in michigan and I have been busy hunting
with my 7mm BR rifle so I havn't done any load development as of yet but my hopes are for a good accurate 110gr load that will double as a varmint load I see that the 30BR gets 3100fps with a 118gr sp
so I should be somewhere around 2950-3000 fps with my 110gr hp... what do you suggest load wise to
start?

I'm having a 30cal built.
I've been waiting and watching for new 30br threads. I've read all I could find so far.
Seems it's either not much interest or "just plug and play" makes nothing to talk about.
Cool you're exploring !
I shoot 30AR cartridge-17 twist= awesome.

Anybody but especially R. Robbinette I'm sure its not exact but isn't Lt 32 supposed to be the same animal as old H32, the predasessor of H 322?
