30br speer 125 gr tnt

Started this same thread in 6br forum but haven’t got to many responses so thought I would try it here also.Looking for some load data using this bullet. I have searched aint there just isn’t much out there any I can find anyway....powders on hand are h4198,vv130,h322, and benchmark..any help would be greatly appreciated....Thought maybe backing off 10% from my 118gr bib load and starting???

I shot a lot of these at 34.7 grains of H 4198, big difference in my rifle ( 17 Krieger ) VS BIB 118 10's , seems like the 30 BR can handle all the H 4198 you can put in it behind the 125 TNT's.

Steve, can you elaborate on"big difference in my rifle vs BIB 118 10's".Sounds like where running pretty much same set up.Im also running 17 twist and bib 118 10's and my load is 34.5gr' of h4198 for the BIB's....

The big difference I'm speaking to is the accuracy of the bullets. At up to 200 yds. the TNT's did score possible's on a one inch x ring but beyond that distance the BIB's clearly outperformed anything I shot prior. Where I shoot has a 2,3 and 400 yd. set up. We start at 2 then on and on to 400, 5 shots for score plus as many sighters as you want.
I have a 330 x 0 chamber and use Randy Robinetts recommended 34.8 grains of H 4198 with His 118's.
As to the TNT's I thought I could enhance their accuracy by weight sorting and B-O and base diameter segregating but it made no difference. I seated them at touch in Lapua brass that has been fired maybe 50 times or more with 34.7 grains of H 4198 and other powders. I used various primers and settled on the 450's as they shot better in my rifle than the Federals, no tumbling just outside neck cleaning with slight bump and resizing each loading. I managed to load 35 grains of H 4198 and the TNT's at times but less shot better. That's my story with my .30 Br. Hope any of it helps in any way, Steve

Yeah I figured the tnt's wouldnt hold a light to the bib's but figured for the cost difference wouldnt hurt to have a load worked up for them.I dont plan on not using bib's anytime soon and have several still but you know how it is always tinkering lol....

At 100 yds the 125 tnt's in my 30br shot one hole at 2 and 3 yds not very good

Appreciate it.Im ashamed to say I've not gotten around to loading any of the tnt's yet,I went ahead and loaded 50 pieces of new brass with the 118 bibs before I got my tnt's ...Will definitely load some after I get all those 50 fireformed..

I shot the 125 TNTs in a few matches while waiting on custom bullets to arrive. I found that if I weight sorted +/- 0.2 gr and then sorted them by bearing length (+/- 0.002"). I ended up with a bunch of different piles but if you sort a 500 box you can get enough make a shot a few rounds with each pile. I used a whole lot of H4198. Only powder I tried. I had a 1:16 twist barrel and these shoot very good for me. That is relative statement - I never shot a clean 250 in score when them. Once I got use 118 BIBs I never looked back. I had to give up bench shooting due to family commitments. One day I'll be back.

I've won matches with them in the past BUT to get consistency, one must sort them by bearing length, then they will shoot. I have had lots of them that were as consistent in length as any of the custom bullets I've had. I most always use hand made bullets although I have used a lot of Berger 115's that are machine made and they seem as good as custom made. A lot of people use them.

TNT's will shoot if they are sorted. Weight doesn't seem to matter but the length of the ogive does. TUNE depends on the body of the bullet engaging the lead of the chamber at exactly the same spot every time. Those who jam hard and adjust powder don't notice but if one wants to , say, be into the lands .006" then one must seat the bullets so that will happen. To achieve this, one should measure loaded rounds from the butt of the case to the beginning of the ogive
of the bullet. There are tools available to do this. Proper seating is a must for absolute accuracy.

I shot some really good groups with that bullet and H322 (34.7 grs). That was at 100yds. Did not try them at longer distances, as I ran out of that powder.

Did a preliminary powder test on 02/10/22 with my 30BR - 125 GR. SPEER TNT POWDER 33.7 GR. VV-N133 PRIMER CCI BR-4 SEATED @1.583 O M 2.229 COL .005 OTL .324 BUSHING .169 5-SHOT GP. Will load another test to see if it duplicates soon. Did not chrono and this rifle does not have a tuner installed.
