.300 WSM WOW!

Fairly new with the 300 wsm, thanks for all the info on this thread.
Is anyone running rl 26 with the heavies? I have some that I wanted to try with some PVA 212gr senecas. Any info/experience would be great.

I hope it's ok to resurrect this thread, I'm pretty new to this forum - I'm getting ready to have a long action WSM built out and reamed for running 220 hybrids. The consensus seems to h4350 for 210s and lighter, and RL23 as the magic powder for heavies, but in 2025, Reloader 23 and 26 are unobtanium/basically discontinued until further notice.

Has anyone had luck with 220-230 grain bullets with other powders? I saw that Mark and Sam After Work got up to 2900ish with H1000 (looks like they started to see some slight pressure signs) and Retumbo equivalents. I'm wondering what the WSM crowd is using as a replacement, or if they've all just switched over to PRC.

I run ADI2213sc (H4831sc) with the 220s. 64.6gr gives single digit ES and SD over 10 shots. Velocity is around 2800fps out of a 32 barrel. No pressure with this load over an Australian summer.

I know @tom shot some tiny groups at 1K in a blizzard couple days ago

btw, thank you for reviving this thread as I'm about to start tuning my 300wsm HG

Anyone have an idea on a safe starting load for h1000 and 220 Hybrids? Hodgdon's site shows 60 to 67gr with a 220 ELD-X at 2.83" OAL, but I'll be running a lot longer than that, likely in the 3.25ish range or OAL.

We do have an excellent boutique bullet maker here in Aus.

He has a great 103gr 6mm bullet that is very popular.

I have some of his new 183gr 7mm bullets that I am only just trialling in my 284. They are hot off his new dies.

The pic attached is Berger VLD, Hybrid and the new Aussie 183gr

Hopefully it will work well, to not be reliant on dribs and drabs of Berger’s would be great!!!
Talking about Ken at Copperhead??
I'm currently trialing his 180VLD and have some of his 185's coming {7mm}
If it is someone else drop me a PM if you don't want to post here...

I am getting 2910f.p.s. with the 215 Hybrids. I am not going to give the 230s a chance. Torque with the 230s is a lot MORE to deal with over the 215s.. Recoil is one thing, torque, at least in my opinion, is more difficult to control for accurate shooting than simple recoil. The TOP wind defying bullet is the Berger 195 running out of the SAUM at 2885 or so. But the 215s at 2910 or so comes pretty dang close.

To give you a true evaluation of how it may compare to a SAUM with 180 /184s I can't say yet>>>>I simply don't have enough experience with the cartridge. There are other things to consider in MY opinion: 1.) ease of tuning; 2.) barrel life extension and 3.) ballistics CLOSE (not quite the equal of) the SAUM and 195s.. Remember this: no bullet is a "Magic Bullet" that will cut thru the wind without worrying about where you are holding! You still MUST read the wind. High HIGH b.c. bullets simply allow for "minor" wind call errors>> with the emphasis on "minor"! "Fishtailing" head OR tail winds is where the REAL advantage is with high B.C. bullets.
What powder, grainge, barrel length are you using to get 2885fps out of the 195gr elite hunter..?
I use them in mine and get around 2830fps from a 30 inch barrel.

Personally, I never used the 195s in the SAUM.. But a few of my friends did and that is what they were getting. I know their barrels were 32" long. I think>>>but not certain, that they were using RL-23.

Thanks.
I use N165 Behind the 195s..
Lot depending from 59.5grs to 60.1grs..
One of my saum shoots the same powder load 20fps slower..
It's a great bullet that seems to be overlooked..
One of the Americans came to the European championships and won using mainly the 195s I believe in a 7mm 270
