.300 WSM WOW!

'TX' in the new Swedish (Bofors manufactured) Alliant grades - Re 16 and 23; AR-Comp - seems to work well as reports are uniformly good.

The best!
The 270 WSM is not great. It could be good, but all 277 bullets are made with an eye for 270 Win. Therefore many explode or generally give poor performance.
So, the 300 WSM is best! Why 150 gr bullets? Those are generally geared for 308 velocities.
3300fps is fast....too fast. 3300 fps will make that kind of a barrel burner, but not too bad. Still, I much prefer 2800-3100 fps. Also, the 150 gr bullet likely has a .400 bc. A longer bullet will fly truer and have a high bc.
I shoot 190 Berger VLD's out of my 300 WSM with good results on deer and antelope. For elk, I need to develop a premium bullet load.
The 150 smk mentioned here is 6.5mm, not 30 cal.

I have a kimber montana in 300 WSM that is approaching 750 rds and i could not be happier. it shoots 180 gr partiton handloads well for elk and bears, and really hums with the 150 nosler partiton of 150 gr swift scirrooc's. I would not hesitate to use it for anything as long as what i was shooting did not plan to eat me, i have a 458 win mag for that.
never had hiccup one in feeding and they do not get much lighter/slimmer then the montana. 3 in the the belly and one up the tube suits me fine

Can anyone share what the expected barrel life is on the 300wsm for F-class?
I believe, like any other high-intensity cartridge, how it's used will have a significant effect on barrel life. Personally, I believe that F-Class is the most detrimental shooting discipline to barrel life longevity. You shoot anywhere from 25-30 rounds per match, with 3 matches per day as the norm. Then add in the atmospheric conditions, like here in Arizona where temps in the summertime can easily reach well over 100 degrees by the 2nd and 3rd matches of the day. All these are contributors to eating a barrel up. If I get my barrel break-in, load development and finally, a year of "accurate" matches, I will be more than satisfied. That should put it somewhere around 16-1700 accurate rounds. Having said that, I have only shot 1 match so far with my .300WSM, so it will be interesting to see just how many accurate rounds I will get.

I burned three barrels shooting 230 Hybrids with H4831SC. Each produced ~1500 rounds of accurate life and I'm not a very fast shooter, typically taking 10-12 minutes for 20 + sighters. 1600-1700 is a little optimistic.

As long as I can get a good solid year, I am satisfied. I could not get that with the 7 SAUM. And when the 7 fell off, it fell off the table! On the other hand Steve, the 230s have an extraordinarily long bearing surface compared to the 215s. Possibly, the shorter bearing surface may add a 100 or so rounds to the 1500 you have experienced..

It is all about heat. Bearing surface has little bearing. ;) You will burn more powder with 215s than I did with 230s. Increased barrel life is not what I would predict. Why not ask Shiraz? He has a lot of 215 experience.

Excellent idea! I had forgot that Shiraz shoots the .300WSM.. I will give him a shout!

It seems to be that Norma is the top brass choice for the 300 wsm but does anyone have any experience with the new Hornady, Bertram, etc?

We get from 1000 to 1100 in 1000 yard BR. After that they start falling off a little. Usually from what I read about barrel life in F Class, you guys get up to double the life. Our rate of fire hurts us, plus the accuracy needed to win is great. In Heavygun I shoot the last 3 sighters in about a minute, immediately firing 10 records in 30 seconds. So that is 13 shots in a minute and a half. The barrels really get hot and that is hard on them. Matt

Doesn't hold a candle to PRS. some matches are 200 rounds plus.
